We recently connected with Colby Ragghianti and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Colby thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I pretty much just picked up a camera cause I found them so interesting and loved to see things through a lens. So I just took advice from my photographer friends asking how all the different things worked on a camera and they pretty much had the same answer, just try different things out and you’ll get the hang of it. So that’s what I did. Knowing what I know now I would say is just keep doing trial and error cause that’s the only way you’re gonna figure out how to do it the way you want. I guess some essential skills would be to know basic knowledge of a camera really. Most of the obstacles I dealt with was just finding time to perfect my craft, it was always a struggle at first to just go out and do it but that’s the way I learned best.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I first got into photography from watching a close friend do it and seeing what he could capture just made me want a camera even more. I do have a small business side of it where I offer to do photo shoots for people who are interested which I am still trying to grow. The discipline in it would just be forcing yourself out of your comfort zone and just trying different things to find your eye. Just keep pushing cause eventually it just feels more natural to you. I mostly offer outdoor shoots but I am looking into doing studio shoots when I grow a little more cause that is something I really want to do for people. I’d have to say what sets me apart from others would be I mostly just shoot on film right now cause I just love the graininess of the photos. I would just want people to know that I am a really nice guy who just love his hobby and would love to work with more people to grow my experience more and more.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a photographer is just all the people you get to meet plus seeing their faces when they get there photos is just one of the best feelings. There is just so many opportunities you can have when you grow a big audience in photography, such as a freelance or nature or car which I would personally love to do. But there is just so many open doors I’m trying to go through while I’m pursuing this path.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I pretty much built my audience on social media by being active as much as I can and communicating with others in my field.
