We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cody Thomas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cody below.
Alright, Cody thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The first time I wanted to pursue being a podcaster dates back to 2006. I remembered purchasing an iPod video and one of the selections under music and videos was a podcast tab. I didn’t actually knew what it meant so I searched on iTunes to find out podcasts were actually radio shows. I searched for ones that would interested me and I found two good shows that I remembered to this day, those being “The LunaticRadio.com Show” and “Clinton Sparks Get Familiar Show”. Since I was in high school at the time, I would write in this notebook of ideas that I would talk about if I had a podcast. If I had known where podcasts was going to take off, I would’ve started my show sooner.

Cody, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Cody Thomas, born and raised out of Oklahoma City. I’m 32 and married to the love of my life, Karisma Thomas. I’ve mentioned to her that I wanted to start a show of my own but just needed motivation. So December 25, 2020, that all changed for the better. My wife bought me a microphone to get started on my journey. I definitely became emotional because I knew that I can definitely start my show, but I called an audible last minute. Instead of immediately starting “Access Code Podcast”, my wife and I began recording “Random Convos From The Couch” now known as “Random Convos With Cody & Karisma”. I did the show 2 months before I started Access Code. The difference between the two is Random Convos is more conversational based between us and Access Code covers music, sports, personal stories and interviews. I’ve been doing Access Code for one year now and it’s getting good each episode.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Promote as much as possible. I say that because you never know who is paying attention and want to support. To me, a lot of go through the same journey, so you want to support people before they make it to the next level. For me, I try to post as much as possible, even if people get sick of it, somebody will appreciate it. Plus I look to see who (especially in my city) are promoting themselves to get bigger than they are.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect so far is being my own boss. I can record whenever I like, talk about the topic that interest me, decide when I want release an episode. What to put on the show. Putting trust in my work is a must.
