We recently connected with Cody Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cody, thanks for joining us today. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers
I’ve always wanted to travel the world, never would I have imagined I would see more than 47 states and 3 countries in 5 years of opening up a business. My work has captured the attention of some of the biggest players in the game. I have had the privilege to partner with these companies in creating documentaries about their work and the stories that come out of the process. This has landed me in Canada, Italy and over 47 states in America. The part is see to be the most interesting is that I am able to do this with just a camera, a lens and a microphone. A few small tools take me across the world. As I travel I get to serve the kingdom, blessing people I encounter with gifts, money, food, prayer, comfort and attention.
This is by the most rewarding part of my career now.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was inspired to get into the industry through my wife. She had a small joy for photography and this was enough to introduce and intrigue me. I purchased an iPhone 7 Plus, shot a video, and the video caught the attention of a potential client. They hired me, I used the money to buy a real camera, and then in 6 months I hit $150K with no prior experience. I consumed as much YouTube content as possible and became an overnight expert. 5 years later, and a few key relationships later, I am semi retired, a millionaire and living the good life. That is how I got into the industry.
What sets me apart from others, according to my colleagues, they claim my ability to instantly apply what I learn is why I am so successful. It doesn’t take me days or weeks to hear advice and apply it. I do it instantly, right then and there. My memory is flawless so I can hear something and take action on it within 5 minutes of hearing it. I did that rapidly and boom, successful if we are measuring success in money. I measure success in happiness, something I am still striving to have more of.
I am most proud of my 2 year old son. I love to watch him grow and learn. Just being a dad and observing another human life evolve is an experience like no other. His life is what I life for.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest and really the only lesson I had to unlearn was a “scarcity mindset.” I grew up poor, doing drugs, in and out of jail, living a life where I believed today was the only day I had and money was not abundant. Boy was I wrong. In America, opportunity is so abundant that you can literally make millions sell a pet rock, or selling dirt and even selling water. Once I realized that this country has opportunity in every niche, and experienced it first hand, I started 12 different income streams, scaled them accordingly and now I realize how much money is readily available for anyone. The idea that “I can never be wealthy” is a lie that is perpetuated throughout lower educated populations in this country. If they believe it enough then they will never live the life they envy so much. From this side, I now see clearly.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with clients through an automated CRM. This allows me to live my life while my business runs itself. However, I foster brand loyalty simply by applying the principle found in the Christian bible to my business. Love God, Love people. Love is an action first and a feeling second. So I simply do things for my clients, gift them things, discount them services every now and then, give them tips, over deliver, and recite information about their family that I learned in conversation. Remembering these things, they feel more human when interacting with me. That is how I keep clients. Love them.
