We were lucky to catch up with Cody Rinehart recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cody, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The way I came up with the name Emerald WavZ was pretty awesome actually. My father was in the Navy and he was stationed in Pensacola, Florida, which is on the Emerald coast line. So thats where i got the first part of the name. The second part of the name WavZ is a format in which you save your music when you record in the studio so thats where the second part comes from.
Cody, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So when it comes to music its has basically been in my blood. My father has been a dj, producer, basically pretty much everything you could think of hes done in the industry. Honestly there is three people that got me into the industry. My cousin (Phaze Jackson) who is also in the industry, Bryan Kelly who pushed me to start rapping and Leon Hendon who pushed me to be the best I owe it to them really. That really sums up why I started Emerald Wavz. Now when it comes to our business we do everything. From booking shows, to recording artist in the studio, to hosting events. We thrive on getting all the locals involved because we want everyone to get the spot light just like us. When it comes to our craft we work hard, long hours on our verses. We work hard in the studio, sometimes it takes a couple days to finish a song because we want the best product. For Emerald Wavz its not about the shows because we have done shows for Bone Thugs, Chip the Ripper, MGK, JellyRoll, its about the fans and how we make them feel after we do our set and we walk off that stage.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honestly the best thing that helped us build our reputation was social media, constant videos on all platforms. Doing shows in different cities and states. Selling merch to anyone and everyone. Half the time just giving it away just to get our name out. That was really what helped us.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met Mikey Ray when I was 19 years old. He had started his own group called King Corp. We did a few shows together but i was a kid and thought I knew everything so we ended up falling out and lost contact. Fast forward to 5 years later we are brothers now owning a Music label that is doing very well. Its crazy how tables have turned.
