We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cody Murphy . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cody below.
Cody, appreciate you joining us today. Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
I guess you could say that my “mission statement” for the podcast is that I don’t care who you are, as long as you’re on my show, you, your stories, etc will 100% be valued and respected.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Cody and I host a weekly podcast called Weekdays with Murph, where I interview independent musicians (specifically in country music) about their careers, etc. How I got into the podcast business is an interesting story. I’ve always had a love of broadcast radio and had several friends who hosted their own podcasts. I’d call in and talk with their guests, and that got the fire started, so on August 20th, 2012, I started Weekdays with Murph and haven’t looked back.
Something I’m most proud of is the fact that this podcast isn’t about me…never has been, never will be. It’s about the guests and highlighting them and their stories and experiences.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think (at least I hope) I’ve been in this business long enough that, when people look at me, they see somebody who knows what they’re talking about, and not just spouting opinions. I’ve taken the stance of, “I don’t care about being the first to report something, I care about getting it right”
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There’s a certain interview I’ve been chasing for the past few years, and I’m this close to landing it. A friend who’s in the hosting business told me that it’s never too late to chase a story or interview, and that’s proving to be right.
