We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cody Lynn Hubbell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cody Lynn below.
Cody Lynn, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
The brow services that I offer truly give women a new found confidence. I have clients who have lost their brows due to aging, thyroid issues, injury, chemo, etc. It is extremely rewarding to provide a service that can change the way someone feels about themselves on a daily basis and make their daily routine so much easier. I have clients of all ages, skin tones, skin types. I absolutely love being able to customize each set of brows to fit the client’s individual needs and style.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been a singer, performing on stage since the age of 4. I have always loved makeup and all things beauty, even as a young girl. I feel that those two things went hand in hand- the excitement of getting ready for a show and the actual performance. I have always been creative and enjoyed art in different forms. I began doing makeup for friends and family as a teen. In my twenties I worked to build a portfolio and started as a freelance makeup artist. I quickly built my business offering professional makeup for weddings, photo shoots, and events. 2014 was my first year that my makeup business started to take off. At that time I was also performing with my band at least two shows a week.
After years of extremely busy weekends with makeup and music, I decided to get certified in microblading. Getting into the permanent makeup industry has really changed my life. I have currently been in my studio suite in Chandler offering brows and other beauty services for over six years. I no longer offer regular makeup as brows have become my true passion. I love my clients, getting to know them and hear about their lives when they come back for return appointments. I love being able to customize the brows specifically for them and give them that new-found confidence. I love having the freedom to set my own schedule and still spend quality time with my two young daughters and my husband. My husband and I still have our band together and we perform live a few times a month.
I am born and raised in Arizona, and I love that I have been able to build something so rewarding and special within the beauty industry here. I will be expanding my business to a larger scale very soon. This fall I will be opening up The Cody Lynn Collective in south Gilbert. It is a 2300 square-foot space with multiple treatment rooms and a conference room for training. I am so excited to expand my services and teach more new artists how to create brows, and create a career that they absolutely love. I am so excited to see how this new chapter unfolds!
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My husband J.T. and I actually met when we were teenagers at a jam session in the valley. We sang a song together, and he still gives me a hard time about not remembering him at that time because he remembers it like it was yesterday. Haha We did not cross paths again until we were 21 and 22 years old. He auditioned for a band that I was currently in. He was hired into the band as well and we immediately had a connection and started dating shortly after. We have currently been together for 14 years, married for 10 years. We cofounded Desert Dixie over a decade ago, and continue to play live music on a regular basis. We are excited to write some new original music and rebrand the band in the near future.
He also has been my biggest supporter in my beauty industry career. He is a residential real estate agent and has been extremely helpful with the business side of the new venture that will open this fall. I feel very blessed to have him as my partner in life and business!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I have worked multiple jobs since the age of 14. My dad always taught me that the secret to success is work, there are no shortcuts. I am very proud of the small businesses that I have built in the music industry and beauty industry. Years of hard work, planning, and saving were necessary in order to bring this next dream to reality.
