Cody, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
The first dollar I earned as a creative was from my one of my dear friend’s frenemy. I don’t know if she bought the piece out of spite, or out of a genuine desire. I was surprised and a little hesitant to sell. But it was a good lesson on how to be professional and polite a a business owner.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a mural artist and erotic artist. Generally the two are separate, but I have done some erotic murals in my own home.
I provide custom art for places that want to get noticed, share a message, and brighten a space. I also do luscious oil paintings.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The government valuing public art is so very important. When cities host concerts in the park, pay for mural installation, and value beauty along with practical, the community thrives. Energy is real. Creating vibrant spaces elevates citizens minds and moods.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I never thought I’d be a mural artist. My mother was one of the first female contractors in San Diego, she primarily painted houses, and I’d sometimes help her during the summers. I found the work tedious and exhausting. I also saw how stressful and unpredictable it was owning her own business.
I resisted doing murals for so long because I was afraid of the scale, labor, and what path I might go down on my art career.
As they say “resistance is the root of all suffering.” Once I let go of my fear, I got big jobs, and had a lot of fun. I now love doing murals. They’ve allowed me to face my fear of being a full-time artist.
