We were lucky to catch up with Cody Eggleston recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cody, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
If i could go back in time and start my business sooner I definitely would. I started my actual business about 5 years ago and like a lot of contractors used it as a nights and weekends gig. I fully pursued it full time about 2 years ago, and to have started it sooner would have meant building a client basis and overcoming all the new company problems earlier. Ive always trusted my quality and skill as a tile installer, as well as always having disliked making someone else money with my abilities, so to have started earlier would have been more money for my business and not my boss. There aren’t too many things id have changed other than trusting myself earlier. Eggleston tile has grown at a pace we can handle as to upholding the quality we’re chosen for and not over expand too fast, and been fortunate to be able to be selective now in the clients we work with.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Eggleston tile is as what it sounds, plus a little more. Our main focus is luxury tile finishes. We bring to life big and small projects of all sorts such as fireplaces, backsplashs, floors, feature walls, showers and patios. We also work with luxury vinyl products. Some of the solutions we find as a company is finding exactly what fit and finish each customer is looking for with each and every project. And that’s also what sets us apart from other companies, we take the time to help go over all the details and aspects of our projects with our customers, so they have exactly what they expect, the first time.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Theres probably a few i could use, but the easiest one would be from when I was readying to make the move here from omaha. I had been saving and planning as well as terminated my lease etc, and about a month before, my truck and all my tools were stolen. In the scheme of resiliency i made the move earlier, took a loan on my secondary car to re equip and get a truck and got started from zero again. Nothing from the theft was recovered yet ive built back all tools, truck, and clientele better
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word of mouth has and always will be my favorite and most recognized form of gaining clientele! Its effective in not only my own brand recognition, but also works kind of as its own filter. With someone personally recommending us on the business side, its also someone being recommended as a customer. Building that effectively is exceeding expectations and always having a great end fit and finish. Everyone knows and talks to other people, its vital to take advantage of it!
