We were lucky to catch up with Cody Cooper recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Cody thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you ever experienced a times when your entire field felt like it was taking a U-Turn?
To finish my bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Rehabilitative Sciences, I was required to complete a 600-hour internship in a related field of work. I chose to do this at a Physical Therapy Clinic and Health Club in Rochester, MN—both of which led into careers.
I became a Certified Strength and Conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and served as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness instructor for many years. Throughout the years of Personal Training (which many think of as just a physical practice) I realized that true transformation and long-lasting change must begin on a deeper level. These deeper levels transcend the physical reality altogether, offering a more “spiritual and/or energetic” approach to long-lasting, sustainable, overall health and wellness. I started to notice an interconnectedness between science and spirituality, as a deeper reality started to emerge.
I had a spiritual awakening experience in 2014, which shifted my path and I felt deeply called to explore holistic health and wellness, particularly, energy medicine. I was attuned to Reiki in 2014 (a Japanese style of healing), and took numerous other trainings & workshops on Angels, energy healing, and developing your intuition. My awareness and career seemed to naturally shift to “all things spiritual” which led me to one of the biggest U-Turns I have ever taken—I decided to start my own business with a new focus. My focus was to create more of a holistic approach to health and wellness that created true and long-lasting change beyond the physical.
This has been one of the most pivotal shifts I have ever made, but by far the most important. Without taking this U-Turn to explore spirituality, energy medicine, reiki, angels, and alternative ways to heal, I would have been missing out on a much more fascinating and soul-enriching approach to life. I wouldn’t have been able to heal myself of many illnesses that no leading-edge Doctor could ever seem to pinpoint. I wouldn’t have been introduced to ancient healing practices that are helping hundreds of thousands of people heal each day. I wouldn’t have been able to witness my clients grow as individuals and witness such positive change beyond the physical. I wouldn’t have realized the power that each one of us holds within. I wouldn’t have discovered the power of love.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
A New Beginning, LLC specializes in offering long-distant Reiki sessions, Akashic Record/Spiritual Guidance sessions, and yoga-based therapy practices. Once a month in-person reiki and omassage events are held in St. Louis Park, Minnesota where a friend and I combine Reiki and Thai massage to create a healing and restoring practice for our community. I hold various online and in-person workshops focusing on The Akashic Records, Angels, Yoga, & Energy Medicine to create a healthy and positive experience that cultivates wonder and helps others tap into the spiritual dimensions of consciousness. I believe you can go to a yoga class anywhere—but to find an experience where you feel a deeper connection to your innermost self, is priceless. This is what I strive to create for my students, through all the modalities that I provide. Something spiritual—something beyond the ordinary.
A New Beginning, LLC has various partnerships with businesses around the world, local yoga communities, and other health and wellness professionals where we provide yoga and wellness retreats all over the country. I believe the healing journey starts by providing designated sacred space. Sacred space means helping people slow down and disconnect from the outside world, while returning inwards to reconnect to the heart. This is where true transformation takes place, and where true healing begins.
Retreats provide ample time to build genuine and healthy connection while creating a true sense of community that fosters belonging. Everyone benefits by being in a loving community of like-minded individuals. Retreats continue to be one of my favorite things to facilitate, as I find it so incredibly intriguing to watch someone’s transformational process take place—truly witnessing the power of love in action. People will often walk in burnt out, tired, lethargic—and they leave glowing with a sense of optimism, revitalization, and trust. The healing that takes place at these retreats is phenomenal and continues to amaze me.
Beyond all these offerings, I am also an Author of 6 spiritual based healing books, that can all be purchased on Amazon. My books serve as tools to deepen into spiritual growth and intuitive development while helping others consciously engage in their own self-healing journey. These are great companions for any spiritual seekers looking to deepen into their practice.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Here are a few things that I believe to be essential in this line of work.
1. We need to be deeply invested in our own spiritual practice, so that we may show up in the most authentic way possible for our clients. Having our own daily practice is essential to creating long lasting success. Practicing what we preach is attractive.
2. Hands-on experience is key. I believe we learn the most when we are on the job, especially when it comes to energy medicine. We are often tapping into our intuition to guide the session, so that we may initiate a relaxation response within the body so that true healing can occur. Developing our intuition through practical, hands-on experience will help you succeed in the long run—as every client is different and brings in their own vibration and energy into the session. What works for one client, might not work for the next. So, being able to adapt and trust in our inner guidance is an essential skill.
3. Be empathetic and genuinely care about helping the individual. Ask yourself, “how can I best support the person in front of me?”
4. Believe and have confidence in what you are doing while also staying open-minded.
5. Be a people person. Enjoy having conversations with others and take time to get to know your people! We are constantly learning, growing, and evolving in a way that is perfect for us in any given moment. So, take time to slow down, listen intently, and recognize the gift of each person that walks through your door.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There was a point on my journey where I knew that something was missing. I didn’t have a sense of belonging or a true sense of community. I struggled to figure out “where I belong”. Thanks to some gracious friends and colleagues, I was able to raise enough money for the down payment on an upcoming 9-month yoga teacher training back in 2019, which turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. It wasn’t until I found Yoga at The Yoga Center Retreat in St. Louis Park, that I felt a true sense of community in my field. I started to feel more deeply respected and safe, just by being me—which is a gift I will cherish for the rest of my life.
Yoga transformed me and continues to transform my life each day. Yoga taught me resilience and how to keep going, even when there were challenges. It showed me how to tie together all the modalities I offer, into one cohesive whole. Yoga and energy medicine is my dharma—my purpose, what I am here to share with the world. And I know that this is just another step in my journey, that will evolve over time, and there is beauty in that knowing that the universe will always provide. Always.
