We recently connected with Cody Chapman and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Cody thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Chatterbox project Hells Pub Entertainment project

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Cody. My artist alias is ChatterBox. I’m a 29 year old dj/rapper/producer raised in St. Paul. When I’m not creating and sharing my own music, Im hosting edm events under my “Hells Pub Entertainment” platform. I’m a father to two beautiful girls and expecting my first son in June. I first got my foot into the music industry just by simply having a passion for music. I was a band geek all throughout my school years playing saxophone, drums, and piano. Going to shows and concerts helped me meet the people I needed to get motivated to create my own music and get in front of people to perform it. After a couple of years of performing under my belt I felt like the bookings and motivation to play started to die down. Between working full time in a kitchen and being a family man, finding time to be creative and getting out to perform was burning me out. I stepped back from performing for about a year before I got the itch to get back out there and chase my dreams again. Shortly after my hiatus, I came up with the idea to host my own events where I could have everything work on my time and what worked best for me and my family. That’s when Hells Pub was born. I’m fortunate to have a venue with great production behind it, that lets me host these events. It gives me the opportunity to share with other artists like myself a nice platform to showcase their creatives in front of an audience.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Back before I had a family and before I started recording my own music; I had a nasty drug habit. I was addicted to basically any and every drug but particularly cocaine and mdma. Going on about a year binge with those drugs I found myself in careless and dangerous situations that nearly took my life. I pushed people closest to me away just by being the way I was with my habit. I eventually found myself in an altercation that led to me fracturing my jaw completely. I’ve had two reconstructive jaw surgeries to fix it. That was my pivotal point in my life that I knew I needed to change. Ive been sober from drugs since 2017. I’ve found some of my oldest friends and family back into my life and have a beautiful family and couldn’t be more happy.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative to me is the joy and energy you can feel from a crowd after a good set or lit event! It’s an indescribable feeling for sure. Putting together a good show or song can take hours, sometimes months and the seeing the satisfaction from others is a sense of accomplishment that can’t be matched. After stepping off the stage from a good performance that you put together and getting congratulated and kudos from strangers is a feeling I wish everybody could experience at least once in their lifetime.
