We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cody-Brianna Pope. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cody-Brianna below.
Alright, Cody-Brianna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
So like a lot of things in my life my first “legit” client was a complete accident. I was actually at a 7-Eleven grabbing a slurpee and some snacks face completely BEAT minding my own business;I caught the eye of another customer. She loved my makeup and wanted my information to give to her daughter who was getting married. I had already done a few of my friends and family’s make up for like prom and other events at the time and had no question I could take on a whole wedding of 14! I was so nervous and excited, the venue was so pretty and these people were trusting that I would make them look amazing, not to mention they were not what I was used to working on at all, some older, a few children, and all white. I didn’t know if I had the correct colors, if I knew what they liked in a make up look, if the lashes were too long. It was hot honey, but I pulled through they all were happy and I finished with time to spear. I even got another gig for a local celebrity that same day due to my post.
Cody-Brianna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Cody-Brianna, Makeup Artist Licensed Esthetician, Massage Therapist and Owner of Serenity’s Dream Luxury Day Spa Llc out in Garden City,Michigan. We offer facials, waxes, lashes, body sculpting and post-op care and much more. In addition to running a Day Spa I’m a creative person and I express my creativity through Writing, Modeling and anything that feels good to my spirit.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Strategizing is something I’m working on now In business, I find it hard to think of my clients at dollar signs or something to plan for. I love what I do and I do it to heal and make others feel great. I honestly think that’s the reason my clients return, I focus on them in the treatment room and give every single one 110%., even on my worst days.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One thing friends, family and clients alike say to me is to take a break! I have been workaholic all of my life and learning to take time to relax and schedule times where I work on clients as well as bookkeeping has been one of the best lessons I have learned. Before I incorporated this strategy I would spend all day open to close working on clients and then after hours I would work on products and sometimes I wouldn’t leave the spot until 4 AM just a return at 7 AM. I’ve had to learn that it’s OK not to work all day!
