We were lucky to catch up with Codie Guillory – Bradley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Codie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
When I became a Mary Kay, IBC my youngest daughter was only about 6 months and I still had a few months left before I received my bachelors. I already started Destiny’s Treasure Box, but didn’t really know how to push it. Also, at this time I felt like my modeling career had moved as far as it could! Now being a new mommy again I couldn’t pursue modeling the way I was before. So, my Mary Kay business came to right on tome! But sometimes I do wish I started/knew about Mary Kay way before! I’ve only been a consultant a little over a year in a half & starting sooner I could have learned about business in a more of hands on manner. Because although I went to school I don’t really feel like I come out knowing what I need to do within my own business! But, I know God has his own timing, so I’m just thankful that I got started.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
When I first was interviewed I was interviewed as a model! So, I am a multi published model in the Houston area. Modeling started out as something I wanted to do for fun, but quickly turned into something I needed! It helped me find self confidence & self love! The second time I was interviewed, I talked about starting my business spiritual & holistic business known as Destiny’s Treasure Box. Well, I’ve started it and I would say it’s doing good from when we last talked! I attend a lot of events as a vendor and just still trying to get my name out there. I don’t send as much time as I should on it, but I know that will change. I also mentioned that I just started my Mary Kay business! Well I’ve moved up the career path and I’m now a red jacket and working on going into directorship this year! I’m most proud of my consistency and not giving up! I love being able to helping people find self confidence within taken care of their skin! I love when a customer reaches out and then over time we become friends and they trust me with their skin care issues! I know my experience within my modeling industry has helped me so much in my Mary Kay business and also help set me apart. Having a little more insight I can bring something different to the table with make up and skin care!

How’d you meet your business partner?
Meeting my Director – Katie Prewitt, we actually met at an event called Bridal Wars. I was planning my wedding and came across this event! Made plans with my friends, we went and had a great time! While their Katie had a table with a game that we played. My friend Kayla ended up winning the game and we got my name into a drawing. I won a pampering session (which I turned into a bridal party). So they came and pampered all my guest & told us about the Mary Kay opportunity! From there it’s been history! I signed my beauty agreement a few weeks after that. I didn’t realize until about a year in, that Katie was the mentor I had been praying for! She really has helped me within my business and understanding business period! So, I’m thankful that I get to work my business alongside her while we both win!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I know that for some people social media can be a bit overwhelming. Because I already had a social media audience from my modeling career it was a little easier for me to start over for my businesses. You have to get comfortable being on camera. (Which isn’t always easy!) But what I tell my team members who aren’t that comfortable is to create a Facebook group or Instagram (whichever is your preference) that don’t have any followers and go live. Do as many test runs as you need. Now, one obstacle that I found that I’ve had! Is being that I already had a social media audience when i changed from modeling to business… it wasn’t easy! I went into this thinking, “oh I should have a lot of customers!” But in fact they were people who liked my modeling content! Some did follow me over but a lot didn’t. So I had to find a new audience!
