We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Coco Cabrel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Coco below.
Hi Coco, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
As part of my rebranding process, I talked a lot with clients and colleagues. My first one-on-one client happened to send me a surprise thank-you gift of a jean jacket with sequined angel wings on the back. As I stared at it hanging in the studio, with a gut feeling that somehow our new name was embedded in the energy of that spectacular and perfect jacket, it hit me full force: Hey, you know what we do? We SOAR! And then a subscription membership client commented that we not only “do movement,” but she likes being part of “a movement” – as in, our supportive community with a purpose bigger than herself.
And so, “We SOAR Movement” was born!

Coco, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
With 30 years of award-winning professorship in anatomy, neurophysiology, and Flamenco dance, I train busy, discerning professionals to sense their body as the gateway to open their thoughts from limitations, access their heart’s vision, and revel in their soul’s purpose at last – through safe, expressive, precise, and empowering Flamenco-inspired movement in my signature uplifting safe haven. This remarkably supportive community has been the most delightful surprise that developed from this pandemic-started business – and it’s the piece that I’m most proud of and grateful and appreciative for.
As a body-mind-spirit coach, my own victories over bulimia, bullying, burnout, babies-over-40, and a back injury inform my keenly trained MD and choreographer insights into acknowledging where you’re at – and inspiring efficient improvement from there.
Most of my programming is delivered online, and clients join in from across the US and other countries as well. As I now expand into corporate programming, and as the world physically opens up to in-person events, I’m delivering uplifting presentations, interactive workshops, Flamenco-flair keynotes, and even one-of-a-kind 5K warmups “in the field.”
A graduate of Northwestern University’s prestigious Honors Program in Medical Education, I’ve been featured on nationally syndicated The List TV (5X), KTLA’s “LA Unscripted,” ABC10’s “Your California Life” (2X), and Spectrum News 1 LA, and in Authority Magazine, Thrive Global Magazine, ShoutOut SoCal, Giddy, Momtastic, and Pregnancy Journal. I’ve been a wellness panelist for Digital Hollywood, and have been interviewed on several podcasts including WYTV7’s “Body, Mind, Spirit”; “thewhyinetwork”; and “Birth Re-imagined.” My podcast interview for “Northwestern Intersections” was voted one of the Top 3 Podcasts of 2020 by Northwestern University alumni around the world.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was in the midst of my custody battle, I also sustained a herniated disc with mind-and-body-crippling sciatica. On an energetic level, I knew all of this “back stabbing” was a wake-up call for me to choose: to continue hiding my love of dance underneath the MD degree I wasn’t even using at the time, or dive deepest into the empowerment of Flamenco wisdom to somehow rise and heal on all levels.
I pivoted from the wife whose intellect and intuition were ignored, to the woman whose expression and power became sought after. I did it by going overseas to study with a Flamenco mentor who believed in me and alternative healthcare practitioners who challenged me. I did the deepest work. And rose triumphant, in the way the ancient Flamencos did with their “deep song,” in which you stay with your grief in order to transform it, and then rise triumphant. I won joint custody, my back is stronger than ever, and I now blend my art and the health sciences to help so many others.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
When I started doing interviews on news segments for local and then national TV, I was surprised at how much I love being in front of the camera and having fun with the host, reporter, or producer. Almost immediately, I was even more surprised at how effective these segments are for inspiring viewers to actively and instantly find me, connect with me, and join my programming.
I have folks comment with awe at my media appearances on my website, for which I’m humbly grateful and appreciative because they’re a lot of work, and I have folks join my programming when they watch a segment that originally aired months prior! People really do look more favorably on media appearances than I ever imagined.
