Coco & Boots , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Innovation comes in all shapes, sizes and across all industries, so we’d love to hear about something you’ve done that you feel was particularly innovative.
BOOTS- leaving a thriving beauty business in San Francisco & moving to Los Angeles during the pandemic & starting over with 3 dogs & our child. We set our eyes on Hollywood to explore what we already knew but what else could set us apart from the industry we’ve always known………………..goal set on elevating our craft of hair & beauty ,our art & the experience we have with our clients & other creatives. We found what we were looking for , creating for & working with celebrities, actors, models & musicians.
CocoAlexander_Innovation to me is taking a chance it’s doing something that everyone says is a terrible idea. In my career I feel like the most innovative moment was in 2020 when we had a thriving business in San Francisco and Covid hit. In November 2020 we ( my husband, Boots, our son Matthew, and our three dogs Lana, Jaxx and Boots) decide we’re leaving San Francisco to go on an adventure to move to LA with virtually no clients. I think innovation is fear. It’s the unknowing. Moving into LA finding a salon not knowing what was gonna happen. And in that moment, we started to work with celebrities we were on a reality show on Paramount+ called “blowing LA”that boots & i starred in / without innovation this would have never happened. We would’ve never grown as an artist like we have today. The depths of the story are honestly unbelievable but so true.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Im most proud of the work we do , the hollywood vibe with celebs & starring in the dramatic hair reality show Blowing LA……………
CocoAlexander-What a massive question who am I? I’m CocoAlexander Bueno. I’ve been doing hair since now I was 14 years old. And based in Beverly Hills, but I also work in San Francisco, New York and anywhere you want me to be. It is my absolute passion. Not only because I get to create individualized looks for my clients, but I get to create art with my clients they are blank canvases. Each time I see them we create something new. My question always starts with how are you today? This question helps ease into the transformation. Helps me take a look inside where my client are today. I do everything from cut to hairstyling to extensions of all kinds. I do wigs and hairpieces for everyone. Also, we do texture treatments of all kind. I want to make my client feel and look their very best. Whatever that means to them our consultation is loving. I don’t love when people show me photos of what they want because a lot of times they’re looking at who the person is in the photo and that’s not them. My version is a truly collaborative experience. I am so blessed to have my partner in life be the colorist that creates some of the most beautiful work I’ve ever seen and I’m not saying that. The discipline is connection. It’s keeping the connection with the client. It’s fostering the relationship with the client. It’s remembering what your client has to say because what they have to say is important. Consistency is so important as an artist. Locations are Sholé Beverly Hills and Mena Meads Atelier San Francisco

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Unlearning there are so many topics to unlearn one that comes to mind is in the early 2000s all you had to do was work hard and be at a really chic salon. In post Covid it’s about your audience. It’s about your presence on social media as an artist then and now I find it refreshing and challenging to have to reinvent to have to unlearn the old ways to have to adapt and grow to the modern ways of growing a business it’s fascinating becauseit’s evolving what worked Last year doesn’t work now. It’s finding your rhythm and keeping it consistent. Unlearning is vital to any business.

How’d you meet your business partner?
We met at a sunday funday drag brunch in San Francisco…………………it was wild because Coco and his beautiful mother Tracy needed a place to sit & lucky for me i had to seats available in my group…..but the brunch ended & we all said our goodbyes. Fast forward one year later i ran into Coco again at a friends house and thats really where it all started. Our friendship led to us working together & becoming business partners to a relationship & marriage & starting a family.
