We recently connected with Coby Rich and have shared our conversation below.
Coby, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful it takes unrelenting focus and commitment. You have to fall in love with the work, not the result.
Coby, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I always get the same reaction when I tell people that I’m a filmmaker. First they’ll look at me like that’s not a real thing and then they’ll ask me what kind of films I’ve made. “Some good, some bad,” is usually my go-to response. The truth is, I’m a story teller and I’ve been doing it my whole life. Ever since I got a camera for Christmas during my childhood, one that only worked when hooked up to a VCR (google that), I’ve been making movies.
Fast forward to 20+ years later and I’m still making movies. My company, Get Rich Productions, has been creating high quality content in Houston for the last 5 years. We’ve collaborated with some of the biggest companies and celebrities to create short films, commercials, music videos and so much more. Before starting my own company, I got my start in local news in Beaumont,TX, covered college athletics at Delta State University in Mississippi and worked 5 seasons in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me the most rewarding part of being an artist is making the audience think and feel real emotions. Human beings have been telling stories since the beginning of time; it’s helps us understand and empathize with the world around us.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
When I first started out (and to this day), I wish I knew more about grants. We’ve recently received funding for a few projects and I’m always looking for more opportunities.
