Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Coach Roxy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Coach thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I worked in law firms as a legal assistant for many years and I worked in radio for a short time as a newscaster. All of my life I sang and wrote music part-time. I also travelled with local bands and started advising other singers and creating performances. When companies began to layoff and I went from job to job I also began to have problem with my voice and later found out that I needed surgery.
While I was healing and had no other work I had to figure out what I could do to earn money. I mentioned this to a couple of vocalists and that I was thinking about maybe doing some vocal and performance coaching. Before I knew it I had 3 or 4 people signing up. I absolutely loved coaching from the beginning. I felt passionate about it. I was good at it.
It was also scary in the beginning when I wondered if I could do this and be ok financially. More students contacted me after a few weeks, people were referring me and giving great reviews, and I was becoming more confident in how I would run my business and help my students.
After a few months, firms began to contact me for jobs. I did a lot of praying and thinking. I decided to take a risk, believe in myself and to give everything I had to do what I love, which is coaching.
This is my eighth year coaching. I am still absolutely passionate about it and happy that I took that risk.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
My father was a musician and singer. He was a radio DJ and later radio News Director. He had his own hand so there was always music and musicians around. My mother could also sing.
I was singing and winning talent shows growing up and was in a band by the time I was 14 years old. After a couple of years I was singing with several bands travelling on the weekends. I was always interested in most genre of music so could sing on all kind of shows. I also ended up helping other singers in different areas. I’ve opened shows for many well-known artists.
In my vocal and performance coaching business I provide vocal and stage development training. My methods are straight to the point and not too technical and without confusion. I try to put myself in the person’s position, especially in the beginning sessions because are extremely nervous when they start receiving my coaching. I Coach age 6 to Adults and most adults are more nervous than the kids. Because I’ve been in the Music business for over 30 years, there isn’t much that can go on in my sessions that I haven’t seen or experienced before…. regarding the reasons that people come to me.
I am constantly researching and working on different ways to improve and/or include in my coaching sessions. I build relationships with the students/artists that I Coach. Every coaching session is personalized because nobody’s the same
I believe that everybody can do anything that they DECIDE to do. and I’ll find a way for them to do it. We’ll figure it out and we are always working towards their goals.
I’m in my own lane when it comes to coaching… My methods are a little unorthodoxed but they work.
In my vocal and performance business I focus on each person’s goals. I take concepts, ideas, and put them in simple terms for my students.
I am proud when I see them doing things that they thought they could not do. I train my students vocally, I create shows, write music, coach in the recording studio and many more services.
I am absolutely focused on each person when they’re in session with me. I care and want them to do well.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being a vocal and performance coach is watching someone that has been working hard and seeing them improve in whatever area that they came to me for. It’s rewarding because it builds their self confidence and self esteem. I am not only professionally invested but I am also emotionally invested in their success as I train, advise and coach.
It is especially rewarding when I receive a positive review and they let me know that I’ve helped them.

Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
One of my goals for my business is for anyone that I’ve worked with is to believe and know that they aren’t restricted creatively. There are many, many way to do and accomplish things. Nobody is better…. They’re different and because you can’t do a thing the same way that someone else does….. You should get creative and be more of yourself….. Nobody else can be you. The industry changes everyday.
