We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cluren Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Cluren, thanks for joining us today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.

We build concepts to promote systemic change by intentionally delivering lived-experience- centered, research-based services. Programs center the lived experiences by including members that have been formerly incarcerated and/or have a family member that has been formerly incarcerated. We center services around impact leadership for high-risk youth community members by providing and facilitating collaborative and community-based training. Cluren, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Cluren Williams. I am a fourth generation, Austinite, full-time musician, father, brother, and uncle. I love to travel, try new foods and spend time with Love ones.
April 7th 2017 my brother and business partner was shot over 12 times by Austin Police Department. They shot him in the head, mouth, nose, and both hands, but he survived the next day. I became a revolutionary.

we spent almost 2 years fighting for justice. My brother was also falsely incarcerated for two years, then released and all charges dropped. My brother had children and a family. We lost a business. We lost our home and we lost our brand.
I never wanted to be a rapper and I still don’t feel as if I am a rapper, but my brother inspired me to get into rap that’s why it’s forever PICKLE city.
I started a program that would honor us both and something we can pass on in our family . Being a black man in America in his right mind, and able to identify with others who also look just like me, is very important and just being myself, sets us apart my story, and what we stand for sets us apart.
We’re looking for more support as we move forward and start to grow in the P.E.A.C.E program more volunteers, more sponsorship. I am grateful that we have the support of our community and community leaders but we still need more bandwidth to see how powerful we really can be.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?

First of all, be grateful to even have people volunteering their time to be a part of your team. Secondly, set out goals and appoint members for different task.
Also, make sure you put a list of ethnics and characteristics to go along with your work descriptions. Make sure that your counterparts are useful and usable. Remember, if you cannot be used, then you become unusable.
Set up weekly meetings in person or group, zoom or some kind of virtual method. Always value the time that your team is giving to your organization.
Remember to cheer each other on, and always be respectful while communicating.
Set up a chain of command and a schedule. Allow everybody to be heard and everybody to feel valued. This i also helps create a healthy work environment and a healthy teen that can take you or your organization or business to a higher level.

April 7, 2017 when my brother Lawrence Parrish was shot I lost my friend and my partner of 30yrs. My brother was also cofounder and have owner of our music label.( KKMG ) I am mediately was responsible for the upbringing of my children and his children And I entire business. For two years, I protested I help shut down prisons. I also help change legislation in Austin, Texas. Once my brother was released it took me two more years to get in Federal Court with my family for a civil lawsuit.
We lost in federal Court, October 2021. My brother passed away shortly after September 2022. From complications of the shooting, he still had bullets in his heart, and in his lungs.
In about three years time through COVID-19, and the pandemic do trials and tribulation loss death and sickness. I was able to become an author, receive several more treats release for different books, including . death and sickness. I was able to become an author receive several more traits release for different books, including a children’s book. I also became a motivational speaker, an Educator and a professional organizer created a program to serve high-risk teenagers and .I also became a motivational speaker, a Educator and a professional organizer created a program to serve high-risk teenagers, and also try my best to be a better father.
