We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cliff Collins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cliff, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
As an educator I am always learning. I am always open to new opportunities which included teaching subjects where I had little knowledge but a desire to learn more. When I was offered the opportunity to teach photography I began taking classes and incorporated what I learned into what I taught. Stretching your abilities and knowledge are key and exploring with like-minded people is exponentially better. The more you shoot the more you learn, and the more you learn the better photographer you become.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
In photography it is essential to discover your style. For me it began with finding what I enjoyed shooting. I love trying new things but live action is my true passion. I do studio work to support shooting sports and live band performances. I always want my clients to be satisfied, so I set expectations and then try to over deliver. I show potential clients my work and if they like it, that is what I deliver.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met another photographer while taking a college photography class and over the past twelve years he has earned a Bachelors degree and a Master degree as well as becoming a full-time educator. We continue to collaborate on various projects. As I move into retirement I have more time to dedicate to our projects.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My ultimate goal is to give back to today’s youth. I’m am working on ways to get cameras and photography skills into the hands and minds of today’s youth. I plan on building a foundation that furthers the photography experience for years to come.
