We recently connected with Cleo B. and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Cleo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
During my corporate career within the legal industry, there were many definining moments that indicated to me that my true life work is to help individuals in the area of skin health, self care, and self love. Coworkers and colleagues would ask me for skin health advice and they didn’t even know that skin health was a passion of mine. As time went on, I realized that helping so many via social media or at my corporate job in regards to skin health brought a sense of fulfillment, it felt very right, because it was an underlying passion. During those definining periods, I decided to start blogging about self love, self care, and skin health. I felt compelled to put out writing pieces sharing my passion for these three things, because I was ready to act on my passion. Skin health is a passion because of what I personally went through from the age of 2-15, but I never shared that story. As I opened up more to my coworkers and colleagues about my passion of skin health, each one of them told me that I need to act on this passion and do what fulfills me. They all encouraged me to put my story out there and be a blessing to somebody with just my story. However, I always wanted to start my own skin care line and I always wanted to be a Medical Esthetician. A year after I wrestled with acting on this passion, I decided to launch my skin care line that I had been working on for 3 years. I remember one of my coworkers told me “you don’t need to be here, you are young, go out there and turn all your dreams into something tangible!” After much necessary thought, I got laid off 6 months after launching my skin care line, and purposed myself. I enrolled in the Esthetics Program at the best school; Elaine Sterling Institute, and I walked by faith despite knowing the outcome. Grateful to say that two months after graduating from school, I was able to open up Mia Lueur Esthetics very first location. I learned that once you walk within your passion and your purpose, the rewards are bounded to find you!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Born and raised in St.Croix, Virgin Islands, where the core and essence of Mia Lueur began. I suffered with eczema, psoriasis, scalp dermatitis, and other inflammatory skin conditions from the age of 2-15. Those skin conditions damaged my self esteem and self perception. My parents took me to dermatologists, used every prescription given, and nothing brought relief. I was 15 when my parents took it upon themselves to go in the backyard and grabbed holistic items they knew would probably help me out. Sure enough it did! My skin cleared up immediately, and my confidence in myself started to grow slowly but surely. Skin health became a huge importance to me personally, because I understand the psychological effects that it can have on individuals, especially when you can’t find effective products, or you can’t find someone to help you go through this ordeal of pain. Mia Lueur (My Glow), is built on my story and is continue building on the stories of others who have experienced psychological distress due to their skin. I created skin care products and became a medical esthetician to help others overcome their skin condition, but most importantly falling in love with their self.
Launched the skin care line in 2020, and I became a Licensed Medical Esthetician, CIDESCO Diplomat, and Oncology Medical Esthetician in 2022.
Mia Lueur is a plant based luxe skin care line, that caters to all skin types. These products have helped so many who have eczema prone skin, dehydrated skin conditions, hyperpigmentation, and skin congestion.

Mia Lueur is built on community and helping you see the beauty in you. Your skin will be taken care of with the improvements necessary. I can guarantee you that!

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I’ll do this over and over again. If I had the confidence, fire, and transparency, I would definitely choose this. Being embarsssed about my skin from a child, is what kept this passion dormant for a long time. However, hindsight being 20/20, I would be right where I am today, doing what I really love.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for me personally has been so simple. Sharing my story, being transparent, educating on the skin and skin conditions via social media, showing potential clients the services I provide via social media, and building their trust. Skin health is not something to joke around about, and educating my clients have brought more clients.
