We were lucky to catch up with Clemmie Greenlee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Clemmie , thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I was born into both parents being alcoholic and poor plus being black and a woman didn’t make anything better for me. I am the second oldest child in my family. We move red every 30 days due to light bill or rent because both my parents frankes the money up. My parents loved me unconditional but that liquor bottle had a grip on them and kept them from protecting me and teaching me. So we ended up moving to the poor neighborhood called the projects and my life took an outrageous turn for the absolute worse! I went from getting maleate’s at five years old, sex trafficked @ 12 to having a baby at 14 and starting drugging at 15 went in and out of juvenile and quit school in the six grade. Stay in sex trafficking, prostitution and drugs until I caught an aggravated assault charge and was facing 20 years after after been released about that time I was lost, drained, confused, helpless and sad that I never had a life. So in 2001 I went into rehab for drugs and alcohol the program was for two years and it was called the Magdalene program n now it’s called Thistle Farms. I graduated in 2003 and my only child was murdered eight months later 😢 But I refused to go back to drugs and alcohol because I want to cherish my son whom I didn’t know how to raise name. So I promise my god and myself I would reach back in the same community that I help destroy and bring hope and healing to those that was just like me and not only show them unconditional love but be there for them along the way💕
Clemmie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is ClemmieG and I am a woman whom had a ruff life from been born into two alcoholic parents, getting caught up in sex trafficking to having a baby at a very early age to losing my only child to murder/ gang and gun violence 💔 My nonprofit organization is called Galaxy star Drug Awareness DBA Nashville Peacemakers and my mission is taking in youths that have been underserved and hopeless and teach them life skills and I also do a grievance group with a handful of moms whom have lost their children to gun violence or fentanyl. . I was lead by my god and determination because there was nobody here for me and I know/ knew how they felt/feel as a child or adult
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
By me being a nonprofit my reputation begin when I lost my son to gun violence and didn’t realize there was so many others and they started contacting me once I did my first news interview .
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In my line of business that nobody wants to do showed me that I was off the radar of a lot of areas and that’s not fair to me so I was so determined that I would introduce my self to everyone, store, business, corporate and travel to other states to let folks know we as low income areas and neighborhoods do exists and need support as the middle class neighborhoods.
