We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Claudia Matos. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Claudia below.
Claudia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
There are so many things my parents did right! I have been so lucky to be born to my parents. My parents migrated from their home countries and worked so hard to provide a life for themselves and my siblings. My parents have always instilled being hard workers as part of the life lessons that they taught us growing up. Another great trait my parents have is always being supportive as we went through school and began our careers. I know that no matter what I may face, I can call them, and they will be there.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always had a passion to help others! It wasn’t until a class in community college that I realized my life would take me down the path of helping others in the mental health field. Making the decision to begin my private practice journey came from wanting to continue meeting clients where they’re at. I pride myself on walking with my clients through whatever brought them to our paths crossing. I work primarily with adults who are highly motivated to learn how to get through their life stresses and manage their anxieties. I also have a passion for working with all-inclusive couples who are looking to reignite their spark. I’m trained in EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) which helps my couples realize where things may have fallen apart and work towards strengthening their bond.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. There is no doubt in my mind that this profession is exactly where I’m supposed to be. This field has helped me engage with clients from all walks of life and I appreciate and hold every story close to my heart.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One story that sticks out to me is a conversation that occurred with an educational advisor in my college career. I remember making the decision to pursue my graduate degree and scheduling an appointment with my advisor to begin the process. I can recall arriving at my appointment with so much excitement to further my education in order to better help my clients and couldn’t wait to take all the notes necessary in order to ensure I did everything correctly throughout the process. I couldn’t help but feel deflated during our appointment as she assured me that I “would never get into the program.” During this moment was when I decided to use the many life lessons my parents had instilled in me and do everything in my power to make sure I got into the program of my choice, and I DID! I’m so glad I didn’t let her opinion deter me or prevent me from pursuing my education and future because I wouldn’t be where I am now.
