We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Claudia Martinez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Claudia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I always knew I wanted to be a hairstylist but it wasn’t until I was in cosmetology school that I realized I also wanted to do special event hair.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My I am a 34 year old hairstylist, born and raised in El Paso Texas. I moved to San Antonio with my husband and son 2014 and started attending cosmetology school in 2016. In 2017, I joined a hair salon that also provided Bridal Hair And Makeup services and this is when I started learning how to do special event Hair. When the pandemic hit, I was no longer able to work in a salon for my children’s safety and that is when I started learning a lot more and in depth about bridal hair. I was offering Make Up services, but soon realized that Hair was my thing. I am now back in a salon, however I am able to do color and cut during the week which I am passionate about. On the weekends I do bridal hair services.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Doing hair whether it’s at the salon with a haircut, highlights or someone’s wedding hair is extremely rewarding. I am honored to be someone that can put a smile on your face with your new color haircut or your wedding day Hair..
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ve definitely had to A pause on my career And it is extremely frustrating to be in that position however, I know that I am always going to get up and do it again. Some days are good. Some days are bad, but the good days always make up for it.
