We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Claudia M. a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Claudia M., appreciate you joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
The period from when the idea was conceived to when it was executed has been one of the most exciting and challenging times of my life. The first step was to secure the funds to implement the business plan. Once the funds were available, the next step was to shop around for the food trailer and all the equipment and utensils needed to operate the kitchen. Once these multiple purchases were made and received, looking for a place to rent and establishing the trailer´s fixed location followed. Parallel to this, the creation of the menu was paramount and very enjoyable as it was during this period that all of the passion for cooking and making use of generational family recipes came to a long awaited fruition.
Next came preparing and trying the recipes with friends and family until the definitive ones were established. After the menu was defined, the choice of the products and vendors needed was defined. Onsite cooking and service trials then followed. Having fine-tuned all aspects of cooking and service, the opening date was set..While all this was going on, Google and social accounts were set up for publicity and advertising, as well as grapevine verbal announcing to family, friends, and previous colleagues was activated.
Finally, opening day came on July 7, 2020. Almost five years have gone by, and we are not only still going, but we are going strong and working full steam on a scaling program for the next 10 years. God providing, this dream will come through.


Claudia M., love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I decided to get into the food industry because of two long-awaited dreams of mine, first, to have my own business, and secondly, to couple it with my great passion for cooking, and particularly, for cooking homemade-style Mexican food made according to generational family recipes.
What makes our food stand out from the rest, and the reason so many like it and give us amazing reviews, is simply because our dishes have stayed true to the original recipes and are made with the best products available, sourced locally. All the products and ingredients were picked and sourced so that they ensure quality, originality, and constant availability. In addition, the cooking technique and procedures are standardized so that the food always tastes the same.
Also, it is our work culture to provide the best possible personal, customized, and warm service to all our clients and patrons in all of our platforms, whether we attend to them in person, by phone, delivery, catering, online, or at full-service events.
I am most proud of the fact that what we set out to do from the start as a team has come to be. Buenos Sabores´ star review grade in all online platforms and Google is very good, ranging from 4.7 to 4.9 stars. The comments we receive from our clients are very pleasing, reassuring, and encourage us to maintain our food quality and our warm, personalized service. Our mission is to give our clients the best food and human experience while engaged in one of the most powerful life pleasures, eating an excellent meal, Buenos Sabores´ Authentic Homemade Style Mexican Food.


Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
E-commerce for Buenos Sabores has been the biggest sales and growth driver during its almost five years of operation. Today, 75% of its sales are generated online. We have partnered with many online marketplace platforms to get to where we are now. These platforms include our website.
We participate in 17 online marketplaces in which different kinds of orders can be placed, including individual, group, corporate catering, personal/family catering, event catering, and onsite corporate/private catering.
As a result of this strategy, Buenos Sabores has grown 750% over 5 years since its opening. In our experience, the bottom line result of these partnerships is only a pro. The commission we pay for their services is well-deserved. We are continually looking for more online marketplace partners to continue our growth.


What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our reputation within our market has been built based on our food quality, food taste, authenticity, and excellent personal service. In hindsight, my passion for sharing great cooking and engaging with people in a more intimate and personal manner has more than paid off. When reading the numerous reviews our customers post on the different platforms and Google, the aforementioned characteristics are the makeup of the comments made. It is very pleasing for us to confirm in this way that the mission we set out to accomplish has come to fruition.
