We recently connected with Claudia Garcia and have shared our conversation below.
Claudia , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
My mother, sister, and I had been contemplating the idea of creating a business around lashes. My sister worked with all types of cliental in the beauty industry which enriched our perspective in customer preferences. The idea of ASHNIC Beauty started out as ASHNIC lashes however; growing up my sister and I had a common interest in makeup. We wanted it to be more than just lashes. We had the opportunity to work makeup artist trade shows for four years which allowed us to come in contact with vendors, beauty gurus, and well-known makeup brands in the industry. That’s how our idea started to take form, the love that we have for makeup. The first step we took was to figure out our business name, which is catchy and has our own personal touch. ASHNIC is a combination of my sister’s first name (Ashley) and my middle name (Nicole). Our business name is registered and trademarked accordingly. We researched to find the manufacturer that we believed fit our expectations the best. We did countless of wear tests with lashes in order to find the best quality lash styles. We moved on to choosing packaging and a color that we felt fit the most with our brand. With the lash styles packaged, I moved on to designing the website and opening up social media accounts. Followed by picking our launch date (7/22/20), which turned out to be a total success, ASHNIC Beauty sold out its first lash line in six hours.
Claudia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We got into our beauty business with the passion and interest we have for makeup. My sister and I would watch countless makeup tutorials on youtube from something as simple as applying eyeliner. Our beauty brand provides a total of seven different lash styles, ranging from small, medium, and voluminous. We also provide tools and accessories geared to help with the application of makeup, like mirrors, lash applicators, lash curlers, powder puffs, hair clips, and makeup sponges.
One of the aspects that sets our brand apart is that we are very much involved in everything that goes with ASHNIC Beauty. We wear the many hats when it comes to our business. We have learned so much from day one are still continuing to learn on how to navigate our business.
What we are most proud of is ASHNIC Beauty existing, a business owned by Latina women. It is extremely rewarding to have a loyal client base loving your product. We took an idea and made it a reality and we are so proud of that. I love getting lash compliments and it feels very rewarding when someone asks me what style and brand I’m wearing and I’m able to say it’s my own. We want our products to empower people to feel their best and enhance one’s beauty.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson we had to unlearn was not to rush into a new product because it will most likely not turn out right. For one of our lash launches, we made the mistake of not thoroughly researching the appropriate manufacturer. It lead us to have boxes of product that did not meet our expectations and put us at a loss. It set us back to square one, lesson learned.

We keep in touch with our customers through social media the most. We like to get their insight and thoughts on product launches, restocks, and product quality. Voting polls are a popular way we like to know our customers interest. Brand loyalty isn’t something a business automatically comes with. As a business owner, it is one’s job to earn the trust of a customer.
