We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Clarke Rigsby. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Clarke below.
Hi Clarke , thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Too many to narrow it to just one; Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Frankie Valli , Tower of Power etc. but, if I must I’d have to say doing so many records with the great Jazz musician Joey DeFrancesco. Not only was he one of the most creative, accomplished musicians on the planet but, because we worked together for so long he became family to me. Also…he knew everybody and would bring to my studio the greatest players, e.g. Jimmy Smith, Pharoah Sanders, James Moody, Ron Blake, Troy Roberts to name but a few off the top of my head.
Clarke , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Like many who do what I do I started as a working musician but quickly became disenchanted with performing because oft times it has very little to do with Music therefore, the recording studio was a much better match for me. I get to work on lots of different kinds of music with many many great musicians.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
To quote a fellow Okie, Will Rogers. “I started with nothing and I still have most of that…” For 43 years I’ve shown up for work and done the best I can. If you do that good things will happen… The money part is secondary to the work for me but, when things go tuff, I just never quit!
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
No…
