We recently connected with Clarion Therapy & Wellness and have shared our conversation below.
Clarion, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
We had always discussed opening a practice when we would meet up for lunch or coffee. One day, we were out for coffee and when it came up, we suddenly felt it was time. That day, things shifted from just dreaming about it and talking about “maybe” to putting a plan into action. We leaned on respected professionals in the community who shared their wisdom and we networked with so many of our friends who had backgrounds in other helpful areas such as marketing and design. Our husbands are experts in so many areas so it really helped to create a power team.
We were both middle school counselors together in 2013 and branched out to difference positions over the years so it was exciting to create something together, especially something we are both so passionate about.
There were two key challenges in the beginning. The first was finding the right building space in a good location. It was important to us to find a location that would allow room for growth and that would have accessible parking. After searching for months, the perfect spot came open. It checked all the things on our list and also happens to be located near phenomenal restaurants with easy access to I-30.
The second challenge was finding the right people. When we were meeting with potential therapists, we collaborated on the qualities that were important to us. We were looking for team members who were kind, professional, relatable, caring, and knowledgeable. We feel so blessed to have found that and much more with our current team.
The words of advice we would give a young professional starting their own practice is to network. Networking is probably one of the most commonly shared pieces of advice but after opening our own practice we see why. Networking and building connections with all professionals has been such a blessing to us. I think when people want to go into a specific field, they only network with those in that profession. However, as a business owner, all of the connections are important. Just in this past year, we have partnered with so many of those various professionals in our network and we feel it has contributed to our success.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
While we are new to running a business and owning a practice, we are not strangers to the counseling field or the community we are located in. We have both served as educators in the community and that has really helped to build trust. The opportunity to walk alongside students, parents, and educators was such a blessing for both of us and when you have that experience you build lasting partnerships and relationships in the community. Many of the therapists at Clarion have also been in schools or are currently in schools and built those meaningful relationships, as well.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The most powerful thing you can do when leading a team is to make them feel seen and valued. Everyone is busy and is usually running in and out of the office so we try to plan intentional moments to gather together. We also ask for input regularly and act on it. That is our way to grow and make our team members feel valued. We also plan dinners and outings so that we can stay connected and grow professionally. The best learning moments are those where we learn from each other.
