We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Clara Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Clara below.
Clara, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
Yes, I currently manage my own social media. Over the past year, I’ve really leaned into learning the ins and outs of content creation—from understanding what captures attention to how to convert views into actual clients or customers. At first, managing my own content was a financial decision. As a small business owner, I simply didn’t have the budget to hire someone. But I also saw it as an opportunity. I genuinely enjoy the creative process and wanted to challenge myself to learn how to market my brand in a way that felt personal, engaging, and true to my mission.
So far, the results have been really encouraging. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that consistency is everything—even when you feel like your content isn’t perfect. Just showing up regularly makes a huge difference. Another insight I’d share with fellow business owners is this: just start. Don’t wait until everything looks perfect. Your content will get better over time with practice. And if it’s something you really struggle with or don’t enjoy—and you have the means—absolutely invest in help. Running a business involves wearing so many hats, and sometimes outsourcing can be the smartest way to protect your energy and elevate your brand.
Ultimately, learning to manage my own content has not only helped grow my business, but it’s also sparked a deeper interest in helping other small business owners with theirs in the future.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a mother of two and a licensed esthetician with five years of experience. My journey into the beauty and wellness industry began in an unexpected but natural way—through makeup. Friends and family loved how I did my own makeup, and they started asking me to do theirs for events. What started as a hobby quickly evolved into something more when I began experiencing skin issues myself. The products I was using weren’t helping, so I took matters into my own hands and started making natural skincare products at home.
That process opened up a whole new passion for me. I discovered esthetics and, just two weeks after learning about esthetician school, I was enrolled. It felt like a calling, not just a career path.
Today, I offer customized facial treatments and non-invasive body sculpting services. My mission—and the heart of my brand—is to help people feel beautiful from the inside out. I know what it’s like to not feel comfortable in your own skin. There was a time when I wouldn’t leave the house without makeup, and that deeply affected my confidence. No one should feel like that. Everyone deserves to feel radiant in the skin and body they’re in—just as God created them.
As a mom who’s gone through physical changes, I also understand how hard it can be to feel confident in your body after pregnancy. That’s why body sculpting became so personal to me. It’s a tool I use to help women reconnect with themselves and feel empowered again.
What sets me apart is the holistic approach I take. My services go beyond skin-deep—I focus on building confidence, educating my clients, and creating a space where beauty and wellness truly connect. I’m proud of the journey that brought me here and even prouder of the transformation I get to witness in my clients every day
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word of mouth has been the most powerful strategy for growing my clientele—especially when I first started my business. Providing great service and creating a memorable experience for each client naturally led to referrals, which helped me build a strong foundation early on.
After taking a break to have my second child, I’ve recently relaunched my services, and in many ways, it feels like I’m starting over. But this time around, I’m approaching things more strategically. I’ve been learning how to effectively use social media to reach and connect with potential clients. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok have given me the chance to showcase my work, share my knowledge, and build trust with my audience.
I’ve also invested in an academy that’s helping me build a proper CRM system and run Facebook and Meta ads the right way—which has made a noticeable difference in how I attract and retain clients. On top of that, participating in local pop-up events and vendor markets has helped me connect directly with my community and introduce more people to my services.
What I’ve learned is that a mix of relationship-building, visibility, and strategic marketing is key. Each method supports the other, and together they help create steady growth. For any business owner trying to grow their clientele, my advice would be: focus on delivering an amazing client experience, don’t underestimate the power of community events, and learn how to use digital tools to expand your reach
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One major lesson I had to unlearn is the idea that there’s a fast track to success in business. I used to believe that if I just worked hard and showed up, things would take off quickly—whether it was building a full-time clientele or growing my social media presence. But I learned through experience that real growth takes time, patience, and a whole lot of persistence.
In the beginning, I imagined I’d be fully booked and thriving in my business within a few months. I also thought social media growth would be a lot quicker than it actually was. But the truth is, it takes much more behind-the-scenes effort than most people realize. You’re constantly learning, refining your skills, testing strategies, and figuring out what works. It’s not glamorous, but it’s real.
What I’ve come to understand is that what’s meant for you will always find you, but it might take longer than you expect. Consistency and resilience are everything. The more you show up and stay committed, the more you grow—not just in your business, but as a person and professional.
Another key part of this lesson is learning not to compare myself to others. It’s easy to look at other business owners—especially those in the same industry—and feel like you’re falling behind. But everyone has a different journey. Some people might take off faster, others may face more challenges—but none of that defines your worth or your potential. Your story is uniquely yours, and it’s unfolding exactly how it’s supposed to.
