Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Clara Brown . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Clara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
One of the most memorable massages I’ve given was to a retired massage therapist who was suffering from early stage dementia. She stated at the beginning of the session that she used to do the work that I do but didn’t remember any of it. But as the massage went along, the memories started coming back to her, she described certain techniques that she used and then I’d perform them on her. The body is a window to the subconscious and it seems there were some memories stored there, untouched by the disease.
She left in a great mood, like she had emerged from a cocoon as a new person with a new outlook on life.
I couldn’t have asked for a more rewarding career.
Clara , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Right now, being so new as an independent business owner, my best source of new clients has been through Instagram ads.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I was once told by a teacher during massage school that we should be selling clients on a full body massage (if they only request upper body, for example) so that they get the full experience. Now that I’m more experienced, I know that a standard sixty-minute massage is not enough time to work out sore and painful tension areas but also give a full body massage. I learned this lesson the hard way when a client early in my career wanted only his upper body worked on but I insisted on the full body massage. This client ended up not receiving the pain relief that he came in for. Since then, I have changed the way I communicate with my clients to ensure they feel the massage is a success.
