Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Claire Sully. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Claire thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Hi! I’m Claire Sully, a pop country artist residing in Boston Massachusetts. I’ve always known that I wanted to be a singer. I started singing around 4 or 5, then at 13 I started doing gigs at bars. It wasn’t until I turned 15, that I knew that my singing hobby had become more than a passion. I am 23 now, and the amount of opportunity and success that I’ve managed to have has been incredible! I picked up a guitar at 11 and you’ll find me playing shows with the same one I bought at 16! I’ve been fortunate enough to connect with the right artists, producers and team members. Since then, I’ve been collaborating on projects with producers from all over the world. We range from Berklee College of Music students, producers out in LA, to writers and singers in Nashville. My end goal as an artist is to move to Nashville and do music full time. If I were to describe my sound, I’d say a blend between Maddie and Tae and Kelsea Ballerini. Before making the switch into pop country, I was making strictly pop music. It was very electro house, techno, EDM sounding. I found that Country music, is very storytelling and I was able to write more genuinely and get the messages out easier. I’d love to release music under a record label, and sign with a publishing company, as well as write for other artists and with them. I can’t wait to see where this next adventure takes me.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who haven’t met me yet! Hi! I’m Claire. How I started in the music industry, as I state above, I started gigging at 13 years old in bars around Vermont, my very small town that I currently reside in, in Massachusetts. I worked really hard. In high school is where I started doing more professional work. I started connecting and networking with the power of social media! I was meeting producers from LA, Nashville, Boston, New York. I was writing music, working with different producers, and just really creating and developing my brand and getting my name out there. I was taking any meeting that someone had to offer just to just go “Hi I’m Claire, please help me” I had some benefits because I am trilingual. I grew up in Milan Italy and have family in Argentina on my mother’s side, so I speak fluent Spanish and Italian. I started writing all sorts of music within my genre. I started out as a pop artist releasing singles, and a few EPs. It wasn’t until I was 17, that I had put out my very first pop country song. Soon enough, I was getting praised for this single, (A Girl in Nashville) and people wanted to hear more out of this new genre that I call Pop Country. I am proud of every single, every EP and every album I’ve put out. With each one, comes stronger and deeper messages, you get to know me on a personal level, and I develop stronger relationships with my writers, producers and my audience.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
I like this question! My mission, or end goal as I like to call it, is to put. out as much music as I can and to grow with my audience/ fans. You know.. I’m a story teller, I always have been, and I like to dive deep into my writing and connect with people. At the end of the day, if someone’s able to relate with my music, then I’m satisfied. I get inspired very easily from anything and everything. I go through relationship, heart break, love, just like everyone else. The only difference with me is, you break my heart, just know I’ll most likely write a song about it and then the whole world will get an insight of how I was treated! I grew up listening to all sorts of music. However, If I were to describe my sound, I’d say a blend of Maddie & Tae. and Kelsea Ballerini. Pop music is where I started, and Country came right after, so I wanted to put out music that was similar to these artists because they’re in the same genre. I’d love to open up for Kelsea Ballerini one day. I’ve seen her live now a couple times, and I’m truly blown away with how she captures an audience, and how relatable her music is. She’s someone who I’d say is such a role model. She shows all sides to her. She doesn’t go out of her way to only show you how polished she is. She’s a confident woman and artist who’s not afraid to be vulnerable with her fans online and in person. So I’d like to follow in her footsteps and maybe one day, do what she does.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?
What’s been rewarding at the end of the day, is finishing a studio session. Wether it’s finishing a single, or an album, it’s the most satisfying feeling in the world as an artist. You go from writing songs in your room that maybe have been sitting in your notes or music files on your laptop for a year or two, and then to see it succeed on digital platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music or iTunes is the best feeling. It’s hard work that’s been paid off. My music has been played on radio now for a little while, and even that brings me such joy. Knowing anyone can listen to it with their friends or on their way to work and relate with it is amazing. I always make sure, my record is the best it can be. I’m such a perfectionist when it comes to my music, so if something sounds off to me in the studio, we’ll most likely be there until it’s perfect and polished! The final product is always the best feeling… blasting it in the speakers with my producers, staying up late and having a release party with friends keeps me on the edge of my seat, it’s all such a fun process!
