We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cj Washington a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Cj, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?

Yeah I have been able to earn a full time living from performing live around my city. It started out really slow but I just took every opportunity I was given and through word of mouth I was able to make a name for myself. I also took the time to network with people whether I was playing in a restaurant/bar or playing a private event at someone’s house.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am a singer/songwriter I started singing when I was a toddler and started playing guitar in high school. I started releasing music in 2019 and haven’t stopped since. I also perform at many of the local venues around my city. I think what sets me apart is my ability to captivate a room with just me and my guitar. I put everything I have into every performance I do no matter how many people are in the audience and who’s listening. I feel like that comes across when you attend one of my shows. I’m very proud of the music I am currently releasing as it’s the most relevant music I have ever written. Relevant in the since of what I am/have went through in my life.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

I think my goal is to let other creatives know to not quit. The worst thing we can do as creatives is stifle ourselves. If we aren’t creating we aren’t ourselves and I think it’s very important to tune out the noise of the world and just do what you do best whatever that is. Do t let anyone tell you anything.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect of being a cretin my space is when I get through to people. I can’t tell you how many times someone has told me they were having a bad day and my music helped them. I’m blessed to be able to uplift peoples spirit
