We recently connected with CJ Palmisano and have shared our conversation below.
CJ , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back on your career, have you ever worked with a great leader or boss? We’d love to hear about the experience and what you think made them such a great leader.
The best boss I’ve ever had is my current one Chris. When Hollow Heroes started he’s been a big supporter of us. He’s been more than accommodating when it comes to needing to leave early or working from home when there’s a gig or rehearsal that I need to get to. Not many bosses would be very understanding of someone at this point in their life trying to play in a band, but I’m beyond thankful for his support.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hollow Heroes was originally founded in January 2020 after I called on our vocalist Alex White, to star a new project together. We really didn’t know if we wanted this to be a real band at first, we just had a lot of songs that had never really seen the light of day and we felt that we needed to share them with world. In 2022 our drummer Tom Riccoboni and our bassist James Romano joined the group making us an actual band. Our influences draw from Rise Against, Silverstein, Armor For Sleep, Alter Bridge, and our biggest being Breaking Benjamin. The name Hollow Heroes comes from a Breaking Benjamin song “So Cold’ the 2nd line of the first verse reads “Hollow Heroes separate as they run”
In the past few years we’re proud to say we have opened for national artists such as Yungblud, Otherwise, Marc Rizzo (formerly of I’ll Nino & Soulfly), and we are getting ready to open for Keith Wallen of Breaking Benjamin on July 30th. We’ve been fortunate enough to play notable New Jersey venues such as The Stone Pony, Wonder Bar, House Of Independents, Debonair Music hall and many more.
We’re a band that love what we do, we love the music we create together, but at the end of the day we’re four friends who all enjoy being around each other. We take our music seriously but not ourselves.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
There’s many ways to support artists, following them on social media/streaming services, commenting on their social media posts, coming out to shows, buying merch. There really isn’t one best thing above all, any of those things help a long way for up and coming artists. Without that none of this is possible.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I’d say the most rewarding aspect is playing live. Playing live is where you will really see your hard work in writing music pay off. We as bands spend hours writing songs, perfecting them, perfecting a live set, and it gives you this adrenaline rush being up there. We pride ourselves in putting on the best show no matter what, it doesn’t matter if it’s 5 people or 500, we give it our all on stage.
