We recently connected with CJ Page and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, CJ thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I worked as a bassist in The Aina Cook Band, a Family run Madagascar based Blues/Soul band, which opened for John Prine before his passing. We recorded 2 Studio Albums, and an EP while I was in High School and early College.
I have had many bands, and artists I have worked with, lately it has been Alarm Tactics, a Hardcore band that discusses topics of self-doubt, vulnerability, and misunderstanding. The recording and writing process has been one of the more personal times, as every bit of honesty is tangible, and serves the sound.

CJ, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It was a path full of trials and tribulations. I was essentially thrown in the deep end at an early age, and started to gig when I was 13-14. I began to show aptitude in the bass guitar, and became very obsessed with it. I started to play in more bands, cut my first records, which lead me to mentors, lessons, and doors I would’ve never thought I’d open. I toured, played in many groups, and began to refine my studio skills as we recorded in commercial studios. Once I had finished my time in college, I moved to the City and became even more enthralled in the music.
I started to intern and work with Joel Nanos of Element Studios, and really began to understand the concept of sound design, mixing, and fundamentally breaking down everything to its core; serve the sound. I am still playing and doing session work as a bassist, while running and operating Phurniture Records Inc, a Music Production and Recording Studio, as well as an Independent Label and Distribution Entity. I also am a A2, Stage Rat, Lights Specialist, and backline tech for Drums, Guitars, Basses, and FOH and Monitor Consoles
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Seeing the reaction to those who have not shared the same experiences as me, being able to have that same feeling of accomplishment. Through running a DIY venue, and now the Studio, I can use what I’ve learned throughout my journey, and help those beginning the journey reach their goals, and show them that anything is possible. You Just need to keep doing it on the days you don’t, and appreciate the days you do. The satisfaction is from the honesty of playing music and capturing it as best as possible.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To serve the sound, and help others serve the sound. Whether it is booking and promoting, running a venue, recording, tracking, and mixing, or the final mastering step, I want to be able to share resources and knowledge so others can see it is attainable to play music, and prosper from it.
