We were lucky to catch up with Cj Mathews recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cj, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
Yes definitely! Most of the time when you’re not doing what everyone else is doing you get looked at sideways or are misunderstood. While most don’t know you or understand your meaning/reason behind your history or real life situations that you have experienced. I had kids and made it a priority to help create stability in their life over my career. I came from poverty, and the more stable my family gets the more time effort and money I invest into my career. I had to take the stairs, but I am here now and most people that are just now paying attention didn’t see me coming up for the steps. I get judged but it does not matter, I’m use to the non-believers becoming believers especially now when they have to pay attention because of the work and effort I put in.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is TAIN I am an artist and producer and also the ceo of my own independent record label “Tha AV Global Ent”. A up and coming artist/producer that will be making a much bigger name for themselves in 2023 and beyond. I provide a variety of different genres of music and production. What we solve for our clients is the music desire and need to want to hear something different and unique and rare. I have took a lot of time waiting but working in the shadows mastering the craft and studying my weaknesses now its time to step into the light and shine. The music speaks for itself and you will understand after you press play. Im most proud of myself for just sticking to the art of being myself and not trying to imitate anybody else but me. I am definitely influenced by others coming from my struggles and making it but never do I want to be them just be me work hard prosper and take care of the family.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Marketing and promoting! When you go on social media and you see artist or even social media influencers you think they just woke up and made a video went viral and became rich. Not knowing that they put years of time effort/energy and money into marketing and promoting if that’s to paying a monthly fee or even paying for social media ads or paying to perform or get into a room that could create/lead to opportunity to take your brand to the next level its not told or shared. It really is the biggest key needed to help open that door to get to the next level
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
When you have success in it. All that hard work all that energy time sleepless nights tears that nobody sees pay off. People truly don’t understand what people go threw especially the ones with that true passion and love and work ethic for it.I have always gotten pennies for music you know $100 here $25 after 2-3 months but when I got my first $1,000 check it meant a lot doing this out the mud with only a couple in the factory working with you barely having the money etc then finally getting a return letting you know your not crazy made me feel overwhelmed with happiness and relief and I feel is the greatest reward and feeling next to the creative part of it.
