We recently connected with CJ Mack and have shared our conversation below.
Hi CJ, thanks for joining us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
I’ve always have these conversations with friends that would end in, “you/we should have have a podcast, and this was way before I really got into podcast as a consumer. I would ask friends, “you think people would really listen to me if I started a podcast” and every time their response would be, “I definitely would”. So one day I wrote on Facebook, “I’m thinking about starting a podcast” and one of my now cohost, Jalesa, commented and said something of the sort of “stop thinking and do that ish”. And that what really pushed me over the edge to start “The Mack Show Podcast” I did countless hours of research on equipment and computer programs that was needed, but I still knew that in order for me to make it where I wanted it to be, it was going to be a lot of trial and error. So within the next 3 to 4 months of going to work, getting off, and studying other podcasts on how they work, I decided to record my first episode February 14, 2020 at East Side Soul Food.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m from Johns Island, South Carolina born and raise. I am the owner/cohost of The Mack Show Podcast, you can find us on all podcast platforms where you listen to your favorite podcast, and also can find us on YouTube. We sell fan merch as well for followers. One thing about our brand is the consistency of work we have, and that’s one of the biggest things that separates us from other podcasts in the city.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We built our social media audience from being consistent and as well having content that will allow our followers to be engaged.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My advice for keeping a team and maintaining high morale is to make the space comfortable for everyone. When people start to get uncomfortable that’s when things start to shift and they allow discomfort to make them shy away from being their natural selves
