We caught up with the brilliant and insightful “CJ.” a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

CJ., thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?

Sooner for sure. I started my musical journey a little later so I get the worst fomo from people who started at like 16. Don’t get me wrong – I’m super grateful for finding my passion. But there’s definitely a part of me that wishes I was 15 years into this journey rather than 5.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we cover more shared insights on CJ., here is a bit more about how he got to where he is today.

Meet CJ., a producer and DJ whose journey into the world of music started eight years ago when he stumbled upon the infectious beats of house music. Instantly drawn to its rhythms and vibrant community, CJ. found solace in the underground scene of Denver. He soon began hosting after-parties and curating events that pulsated with tech house, funk, and disco. What began as a hobby swiftly transformed into a passionate pursuit, leading CJ. to trade in his corporate job for the decks and embark on a journey of exploration.

Inspired by the likes of Daft Punk, Chris Lake, and A-Trak, CJ.’s sound is a dynamic fusion of eclectic influences and boundless creativity. However, it was during the lockdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic that his once-hobby kickstarted a thriving career. Immersed in the art of production, he spent countless hours honing his craft, emerging from the chaos with a newfound skillset & sense of purpose.

As the world slowly reopened, CJ. found himself fully immersed in his music. Not only was he putting in studio work day in and day out, he also began tapping into the Live Event scene. By partnering with local venues, promoters, and artists, he began throwing self curated parties. While the love for music was evident, his love for the community drove him to cement himself in the Denver night life scene.

For CJ., music isn’t just a career—it’s a way of life, an ever-evolving journey of self-expression and exploration.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Pay off in the form of the absolutely electric parties! The energy is why so many of us fall in love with music. Then to combine music with cool venues, and awesome atmospheres creates an unmatched and explosive energy. That can come in different forms; seeing Chris Lake on a summer rooftop vs Blues Traveler at Red Rocks bring wildly different energies but one isn’t necessarily better than the other. They’re both awesome in their own ways. That’s what makes music so special.

Now – getting to be a part of that special energy is beautiful and also just a ton of fun. The scenes, parties and overall community is really dope. There’s so much that’s put into this path – but the reward makes the journey totally worth it.
