We were lucky to catch up with Cindy Yeh recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cindy, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
Believe it or not, my first client that I got who was a complete stranger was during the beginning of COVID when the whole world was in lock down.
Because of COVID, I went from serving full time at a restaurant to being out of a job for three months during lockdown.
Since I all of a sudden had all the time in the world to do whatever I wanted, I decided to put my energy into my passion, and started pursuing it as a business venture.
I am a firm believer of whatever you put your focus & energy on, it will grow. And sure enough, as soon as I decided to put my energy into photography. I was able to get my first client just like that! And it wasn’t just a small family or couples shoot. It was for a wedding!!
I remember getting that first inquiry and being SO excited and immediately running to my boyfriend telling him the good news. Then I googled on how to price for a wedding, made my own pricing packages & sent it over to my first client!
Months went by after that and I finally heard back & they were ready to book me! They had also decided to book my highest package at the time too. I was so excited and just like that it lit a fire within me that this is what I wanted to do.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi! My name is Cindy, I am 25 years old, and the owner of Cindy Yeh Photography LLC. I am an old soul, an animal lover, an empath, a glass is half full kinda gal, and a health & wellness junkie.
Photography has been a hobby of mine
since my senior year of high school when I purchased my first camera. I never thought about pursuing it as a career until a co-worker asked me to photograph her wedding.
That wedding changed my life.
It sparked something inside of me. I decided to put my energy into growing & learning everything about photography.
Fast forward to today, I’ve been doing photography full time for almost two years now. Currently I am specializing in weddings, couples, family, boudoir & lifestyle.
It’s a been a big learning journey so far and I am still learning every single day. Each day I am getting better & becoming more confident in myself as a business owner & artist.
I think what sets me a part from other photography businesses is simply me & who I am as a person.
I believe my business is more than a transaction. To me my business is about the relationships, connections, and the fulfillment I get from being of service to others.
And with my work, I want you to FEEL something when you look at my images. I want my clients to look at their images and feel like they are reliving that day all over again. I want my clients to feel beautiful, to feel all the love and happiness captured in a single photograph.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As soon as I turned 16, I started working and had 3 jobs at one point. At the time, life at home was hard so I wanted to be away from home as much as possible. I had to grow up fast and have been independent & self reliant at a young age.
I feel like if my friends had to describe me in a couple of words, strength & resiliency would definitely come up.
I am grateful of everything that has happened in the past because it’s all shaped me to who I am today. It’s the reason why I work so hard & refuse to give up even when things get hard.
I’ve made a beautiful life for myself doing what I love everyday surrounded by people that I love.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media, social media, social media! I think any entrepreneurs & small business owners know just how important social media is for your marketing! It’s also important to remember to show up as authentically as possible. I think nowadays people are craving authenticity and I think when you show up as yourself, you are also attracting your ideal clients.
