We were lucky to catch up with Cindy Rivers and Droxy Bennett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Cindy Rivers and Droxy Bennett thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
We manage our own social media and several of our artists’ social media pages.
We don’t have as much of a following as our music artists do, so it only made sense to manage our own social media pages. Some of our artists don’t have the time to post as much as necessary and/or they have raw content that needs to be edited. We also have artists that prefer to stick to the art itself instead of being overwhelmed by content creation etc. Our results have been mixed… The artists who weren’t posting much at all have gained new followers and higher views on new content posted since we’ve been given permission to access their accounts. We also know that it might be beneficial to hire someone when they increase their fanbase.
If you have the time and the creative energy to keep up with social media you could save yourself some money and do it yourself. If you don’t have the patience and you have the money to hire someone: we suggest you do just that!
Cindy Rivers and Droxy Bennett, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The C.E.O. and C.O.O. of Dirty 1st Management were both born and raised in Flatbush Brooklyn, New York which is well known as a Little Caribbean city. Living in this place, experiencing the transitions of music from the 70’s until now created a diverse love of music between them.
Throughout the years they took similar paths by djing parties, and being a college radio show host. During that time they met numerous musicians and artists that did not know what they deserved or what was owed to them. This sparked the desire to want to help seasoned artists and newcomers.
As managers we solve creative issues along with business and personal problems. We are a family-oriented company that is completely dedicated to the artist… not only professionally, but personally. We are most proud of our relationships with our artists and their growth in knowledge of the music industry. We promote personal growth, advice on how to master their craft, and we ensure they have control of their creative works.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
We call them often, facetime them for meetings, we have in person meetings, and we meet the families of the artists to remain family-oriented. We foster brand loyalty by being in constant communication along with being 100% honest with our artists. We also use each other’s resources to help the whole and we take trips together.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
