Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cierre Lanae. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cierre, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
I’ve always wanted to give back to the community. I recently sponsored my first Non profitable charity organization, New Hope Foundation in Ghana. We make donations to different shelters, clothings, food etc. I am currently in the works of creating an organization in Baltimore as well so that I could be able to make donations to different shelters.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Cierre Lanae. I am a loctician based in Baltimore MD. I’ve always done loc maintenance, but I was also doing braids. I recently completely transitioned into Locs full time because I felt with Locs, I could be more creative when it comes to styling etc. Locs are very special to me. Locs represent the connection to the Lion of Judah which also represents the power and strength of a person. Samson’s strength was compromised when his lock were cut off, signifying that his hair held great power.
I’ve launched my own haircare line, edge control, loc gel, loc hydrating mist (rose water) and Loc apparel. A lot of my clients that are serviced by me receives loc maintenance, loc extensions, loc repairs, loc reattachments, etc.
The main thing that sets me apart from others is my mindset. To be a leader that people want to follow, you must be comfortable letting go of your ego. You must be willing to learn and adopt a growth mindset vs a fixed mindset.
While I am a loctician, I consider myself more as a creative. I love when my clients let me style their locs in different ways. Locs are very versatile. You can style locs into braids, twists, cornrows, curls, and you can even add extensions to locs to make them longer. I would say that I am most known for “the parts” lol.
Let me explain: While doing a loc retwist, my clients already know that the foundation will be neat. They mostly get excited about how crisp their parts are at the end of the service lol.
I am most proud of how far I have pushed my brand. I have been featured in magazines, billboards, my hair care product has been in hair stores. I never thought that I would have so many supporters behind the way I do now. It feels amazing for my hard work to actually be recognized and seen.
How did you build your audience on social media?
When it comes down to marketing, the number one thing that was able to get my brand noticed was “word of mouth”. By having referrals, that is how I built my audience on social media. I also always make sure that I have a schedule to post. I see many business pages posting 3-4 times a day, and that’s okay if it’s a major brand, but I found that if you do that while having a small business you would actually be looked over. People love content, but they also don’t want to be overwhelmed with content 24/7. They need to have something to miss. That’s what will drive the traffic back to your social media.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is simply knowing what my targeted audience wants. Once you focus on your targeted audience that will be a door opener for you. Following the current trends, etc.
