We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cierra Williams . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cierra below.
Alright, Cierra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Originally, I began watching other makeup artists as they applied makeup and walked through makeup looks- however, I began exploring different techniques and developing my own individual makeup styles. I am completely self taught although i have taken a couple makeup sanitation and basic service courses. Taking these classes a little sooner may have helped to expedite my process. Additionally, many MUAs begin in cosmetology school & thus begin their journey in makeup at a more developed stage. In servicing clients it’s important to know basic sanitation practices, professionalism and basic skincare where makeup is concerned. When I first began makeup, I was a new mom and that limited me in the area of time availability. Additionally I am not an MUA full time so in addition to my full time job, it has been difficult fitting makeup into such a busy life of work and mom-ing.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a freelance MUA based out of Baltimore MD. I specialize in creative and unique makeup looks. I offer service to clients in my local area by booking but the majority of my looks are conducted on myself. I help my clients feel like their best selves by providing a luxury service to enhance their natural beauty. I have been taking advantage of the latest video craz and have been working on tik tok, & Facebook/instagram reels to gain more exposure for my brand. I want my clients to know that as their makeup artist I am passionate about what I do, I strive to provide the best process to achieve their desired look, and the product of my work will be something they will be proud to wear.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I aspire to do celebrity editorial makeup-working for famous photographers and videographers. Ultimately I want my work to be able to be enjoyed by everyone around the world.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Others enjoyment of my work is the most rewarding aspect of my creative work.
