We recently connected with Cierra Blueitt and have shared our conversation below.
Cierra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
My legacy has always been a driving force since I was a child. I want to be remembered not only for my work, but for the impact I made in my community. I want to be a voice for the voiceless and source of hope for those who feel hopeless. I’ve been in situations where I had to lean on my own light when everything around me seemed so dark. I wanted someone to see me and guide me to prosperity. I didn’t have that, so I want to be that person to others. I want them to know someone cares.
When I’m gone, I want to be remembered for my light, love, hope and inspiration.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi, my name is Cierra. I am an Ebay reseller and a Black content creator. The journey has been an interesting with one business leading to the other.
I started my reselling business in 2018. I worked retail and I was so unfulfilled and knew I was destined for more. I worked hard daily and was promoted twice within two weeks of being hired. Upon becoming a manager, I just knew I would be able to live the life I wanted. However, that was far from the truth. I was miserable and couldn’t afford to pay my bills and do the things I wanted to do. I quickly realized that I needed to work for myself.
My wife discovered a couple on YouTube who taught their audience how to earn 6 figures on Ebay. I knew we could do it so I quit my job to pursue that full time.
7 years later, I’m still doing what I love and helping others along the way. We always kept our customers at the forefront of our minds. We specialize in rare, vintage items and general merchandise at an affordable price. We don’t believe in price gouging and that’s what kept us in business for so long.
One day at work, I found an authentic pair of slavery shackles at a yard sale. I posted the video on Tiktok and it went viral which lead me to being a Black History Content creator. My followers wanted to learn more and I wanted to create a learning opportunity for all of us. It’s important for our community to know where we come from because our history is actively being erased.
I’ve amassed almost 20k followers on tiktok. It has been challenging juggling both businesses, but I’ve been making it work. I have a plethora of ideas and topics that I plan to cover on my TikTok channel. This year I plan to devote more time and energy to content creation and teach the collective history that’s been forgotten while also covering Black current events and news. My goal is to become a reputable Black News Source and community advocate.
This work is very satisfying for me and I look forward to the impact I can make in the future.

Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
When covid first hit, we almost lost everything. Our business took a hit and our sales came to a screeching halt. We specialized in rare vintage collectibles and general merchandise such as clothes, shoes, and electronics. During that time everyone was focused on buying essential items like food, water and hygiene products. We had the opportunity to jump on the bandwagon and sell those items but taking advantage of people during troubling times was something we would never participate in.
So instead we watched as our sales suffered. It was a really hard period for us but instead of giving up, we took a step back and focused on taking care of ourselves and our family.
We used our time off to regroup and restrategize. We came back stronger than ever. We continued to expand our store presence and we opened an additional store that focused on books and media. We sold text books, encyclopedias and other books that were in demand. As far as our main store, we just kept pushing and eventually it took back off. We were back in business and stronger than ever. It took more work and effort than before but it paid off in the end.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
After I posted the shackles video I became viral overnight. I didn’t expect it to have that outcome. I just listened to my intuition and posted it. Initially I recorded the video and sent it to my family and friends. On the last days of Black History Month I had a strong inclination to post the video on TikTok. I resisted for a couple days then I finally decided to post on the very last day. I didn’t expect anything to come from it but I woke up to it having over a million views and counting.
The viewers wanted to learn more about the backstory of the shackles and how I found them. So I just started sharing the story and history behind them.
So my advice to anyone who wants to grow their following would be to post what feels authentic to you. If you have a feeling to post something just go for it. You never know what the outcome could be. Don’t shy away from your calling or sharing your gifts and most importantly stay consistent. I had to learn that the hard way. For a period of time I got lost in my self-doubt and negative inner critic. I thought I wasn’t good enough and I wasn’t ready. I believed in my future self, not in who I currently was. I knew I was destined for greatness, I just didn’t think I was great yet and I lost a lot of time because of that. So take it from me, you are good enough today. There are people out there who will love you for being you, as you are. You don’t have to become someone or something else to cultivate a following. You just have to be authentic and continously show up, even if you don’t feel ready. Consistency is key. No matter what, you have to keep going.
