My name is Ciera Rogers. I’m the founder of the fashion line Babes, an inclusive brand that celebrates every woman’s curves. Since its launch, Babes’s message of empowerment has attracted over 3 million followers across my social platforms. You may have even seen my designs sported by icons like Lizzo and championed by Beyonce. I have also written a book called “The Outsider Advantage” that proves that you don’t have to fit in to win.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

I launched BABES with just a $10 investment – all I could scrape together at the time. With no outside investors, I was determined to make it succeed. Starting small, I bought one outfit and sold it, then reinvested the profits into purchasing another. This cycle continued relentlessly, each sale fueling the growth of the business. Through sheer determination and perseverance, I gradually amassed enough capital to establish a sustainable enterprise

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

When I started my account on Instagram, social media was vastly different from real life. It seemed like everyone was meticulously airbrushing their photos, applying filters to the point where they became almost unrecognizable. In the midst of this trend, I made a conscious decision to celebrate my uniqueness and take a different path. My breakthrough came with a post that went viral, where I boldly embraced my imperfections, refusing to edit out my cellulite. From that moment, my social media presence began to flourish. Trying to “fit in” may seem like the easier choice but it’s the daring to stand out that propels you forward and helps build the audience you want.
