We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ciara Morris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ciara, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents ensured that I grew up with a solid foundation of values. I was taught to be kind to others, to be empathetic and understanding and that if you’re going to do something, you should do it to the absolute best of your ability. My mother encouraged me to be curious and never stop thirsting for knowledge. She also made sure that I understood that being early was the only option as being on time meant you were already late. My dad proved that hard work paid off and that just because you worked hard didn’t mean you couldn’t have a good time doing it.
These values have greatly impacted my own work ethic and how I choose to move through the world. In my personal and work life, I always do my best to be kind, open and dedicated. With these values I was taught and the skills I’ve gained in life, I know that I can achieve any goal.
Ciara, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey began when I decided to start telling stories on TikTok. I’d seen several other creators share their experiences and realized that one thing that so many people had in common was the frustration of working in a customer service environment. As my following grew, I started creating more dramatic stories and series, putting soap opera like spins on interactions that normally would be more forgettable. In sharing these stories, I enjoyed the community it created and the way it brought everyone together. And then followers asked me to share their stories and it brought me joy to be able to bring light to situations that weren’t always pleasing memories.
Creating series like As the Mixer Turns and characters like Darla Anne allows me to bring joy to others and myself.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
In my opinion, building an audience is truly about consistency. Once you find your niche, post content that you feel good about and post it on a regular basis. In doing this and maintaining high standards in how you interact with others on those posts, those that you want to follow you will find you, even if it takes time.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creator is getting to see how people interact with what you’ve created. When people find enjoyment in something I’ve posted, something that I spent time and energy crafting until I thought it was perfect, it makes me happy and proud. There’s an incredible feeling when someone tells me that seeing something I’ve posted makes their day.
