We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ciara Monroe . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ciara below.
Ciara, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
In 2018I decided to go back to school and get my Masters in sports management. I had never worked a job in sports and I never played a sport, but I knew I loved basketball. I knew that I wanted to talk basketball and have my own show on ESPN. The dream was big and I did not know how to actually make that happen. I continued with school but I was not focused. I felt like my life was falling apart, I felt alone. I started to deal with that pain with drinking, going out and living the party life. At this point I was treating my self wrong, treated my friends like they were nothing. I was not happy and I did not know how to tell some one that or even admit it to myself. I thank god for covid because that was my blessing in disguise. I started to think about my own business and how I can incorporate basketball. I I came up with a hookah business, though about diving into stock and then I found myself thinking about basketball. One day I was working my overnight job at the time and searched podcast, downloaded the app and took the risk and recorded a preview. In August 2020 Sportstalkwithcee put out its first episode. I felt so good, I really felt happy. I had a journey to this moment, so why not make this platform for athletes to come share their journey with me. Creating a logo, building the brand, reaching out to athletes, I felt good in my soul. Some athletes said yes and some said no but it made me work harder. I was able to become part of MTMV sport podcast network and it has been such a wonderful opportunity and pulling out talents I did not know I have and would love doing. I was able to do media coverage at college basketball games, Big East Tournament, and for a WNBA team. I m apart of a live show on Mondays on youtube!. I am also now a writer! The late nights, the research, the preparing for show or the games has been amazing and love every second of it. From this risk I edit my videos, create flyers for episodes and created a youtube channel. I Just celebrated my two anniversary 76 episodes, and I continue to grow. I do not know where this journey is taking me but thus far it been one hell of a ride.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am just a girl from providence Rhode island. You could say sports are rooted in my DNA. My mother was a basketball star and an unstoppable softball player. My father played football and went on to coaching. At a young age, I was always at my brother’s basketball games. Known for being the loudest one in the stand, still holds true to this day. My passion for sports, the game, the comradery is what I live and breathe for. I started Sports Talk With Cee to start my journey towards my dream. It has always been a dream of mine to be on ESPN and one day I promise, you will see me there. Sports talk With Cee allows me to give others in sports a platform to speak on their individual accomplishments, talk about the importance of sports in their lives as well as in our youths and allows me to do what I love doing. What I am most proud as of today is the people who I have met along this journey. I support I receive and I am so grateful. The athletes and their stories have been most rewarding, giving them the chance to share their real journey. Live life, be free and be you.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Sportstalkwithcee is all about Live life, be free and be you. This platform is no judgement free zone, no holding back because you will never know who you may inspire or help get through a tough time. Being authentic is the best way to build your brand because it is you! Being you will get you to the places you need and your passion will always show! One basketball player I interviewed she stated, I made her feel comfortable from the beginning and it made it easy for her to share journey! This episode confirmed that this platform is exactly what I should be doing.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?
I have met some of the most amazing genuine people along this journey. The stories that was share with me , not only was I grateful but I was inspired to keep going. I never felt genuine care, support and love from people that I barley even knew, and from one conversation. The joy, the laughter, the courage you can hear in each episode. Thank you to each guest for showing me what it is to be brave and reminding me Sportstalkwithcee is needed. Live life, be free, and you get to be you.
