We recently connected with Ciani Cruz and have shared our conversation below.
Ciani , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
Most people in this industry believe that at some point you have to minimize the clothing you wear to get further in your career and I don’t think this is true at all, many people are ready to take advantage of those who don’t know any better and I happend to be one of those people, unfortunately being exploited by others really scared me but it is also what drove me to become more independent in my career instead of spending time or money depending on other people to help me up the ladder, I had to learn the hard way that this industry can be dangerous if your not careful and sometimes it’s best to do things alone and make your own decisions on the kind of model or brand you want to create.
Ciani , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
YES I Am An Independent Mid-Size Fashion Model.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect about being a Model is seeing What I have created come to life as art and fashion! I have had the amazing opportunity to be able to travel and take photos in some of the most beautiful places in arizona and California.
I am not only able to inspire others but I also inspire my self as well, I would Love to travel the world and continue my Goal as an international model by always choosing to Be the Inspiration in the Moment.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
You don’t become a model over night. When I tell people I am a model they immediately ask why I am not signed to an agency, truthfully it is not that simple, yes I have applied to agencies and yes I have been interviewed but I have never gotten accepted even in my own state, I have always been turned away mostly because of my height, making your way in the industry is tough you need to work hard and really prove that you are here to Suceed!
It is also important to network and go to events, show your face and get to know others, work together and starting collaborating with professionals you have things in common with, you never know who you might meet or how far you may go with just one conversation.
