We were lucky to catch up with Chyna T. recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chyna , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started sooner or later?
I became a hybrid published author in 2015 believing that I knew what I was doing . At that point in my life, I had the energy and enthusiasm to embark on this new author journey. Starting sooner might have allowed me to establish my name earlier, but it would also have meant less experience and financial stability. On the other hand, starting later might have given me more industry knowledge and resources but less of the youthful drive and risk tolerance that entrepreneurship often demands.
Looking back, I do wish I hadn’t taken a break from writing fiction. I had a passion for storytelling and a dedicated readership, but as life started lifeing , I set aside my creative writing endeavors. It’s challenging to please readers and understand their evolving preferences, and consistent output is crucial in the competitive world of fiction. Had I continued writing, I might have honed my skills, maintained a loyal following, and adapted to changing trends more effectively. Nevertheless, every choice I made has contributed to my journey, and I’ve learned valuable lessons along the way, even if I sometimes wish I hadn’t hit pause on my writing passion.
Chyna , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born and raised in Miami, FL, is a talented and passionate author who embarked on my writing journey during high school and has continued to hone my skills through college, now venturing into the exciting realm of screenwriting.
Fueled by my vivid imagination and desire to create my own worlds, I began crafting short stories and poems during my high school days. As I transitioned into college, I pursued my passion by joining the FAMUan newspaper as a Staff Writer. During my time in college, I also started the Social Work department newsletter and became editor in chief for a local magazine, Statis Magazine after college.
Not only am I an author and executive producer, but also a certified Coach specializing in life, health and small business, a certified FL Notary and Wedding Officiant, and a Speaker. I also created the Indie Book Fair expo that features independent authors at a local book fair.
Now, I stand at the precipice of an exciting new chapter in her writing career with my conversion into an Executive Director and Screenwriter roles. In addition, I created two children’s book series – one of boys named The Kyndall Series and one for girls titled The Colorful Experiences of Amina and Emma.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Discovering a fibroid in my uterus was a turning point in my life, a catalyst for unlearning what I thought I knew about nutrition. Extensive research opened my eyes to the profound impact of our dietary choices on our health and longevity. It became evident that meat and dairy, sources of excess estrogen, were significant culprits behind the fibroids.
To properly eat for a longer and healthier life, I embarked on a journey of unlearning and relearning. I embraced a plant-based diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. Eliminating meat and dairy, which introduce toxins and mucus into our bodies, was a transformative step.
The change was challenging at first, but as I unlearned old eating habits, I relearned the benefits of a diet centered on whole, plant-based foods. My energy levels increased, and I started shedding excess weight. More importantly, I reduced the risk of estrogen-related issues like fibroids.
This experience taught me the incredible power of dietary choices in shaping our well-being. It’s a lesson that extends beyond personal health to environmental and ethical considerations as well. Choosing to unlearn the traditional meat and dairy-centric diet and relearning how to eat for longevity has not only improved my health but also deepened my connection to the world around me. It’s a journey I’m grateful to have undertaken, and I hope to inspire others to explore this path to better health and a longer, more vibrant life.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building a strong social media audience requires dedication and a strategic approach. Here’s a plan that has worked for many:
1. **Consistency is Key**: Logging into TikTok daily and going live every morning establishes a routine that your audience can rely on. This regular interaction keeps you at the forefront of their minds.
2. **Frequent Posting**: Sharing relevant content three times a day not only keeps your feed fresh but also increases the chances of reaching a broader audience. Consistency here is crucial as well.
3. **Engage with Your Audience**: Responding to all your fans, whether through comments or direct messages, fosters a sense of community. When viewers feel heard and appreciated, they’re more likely to stick around.
4. **Educate and Entertain**: Offering informative content that educates your viewers on topics they may not have considered can set you apart. But remember, entertainment is equally important. Blend knowledge with creativity to keep your audience engaged.
5. **Authenticity**: Being yourself is the best advice for building a following. People connect with genuine, relatable personalities. Share your story, your passions, and your journey. Authenticity builds trust.
6. **Find Your Niche**: Define your area of expertise or passion, and focus on it. This helps in targeting a specific audience interested in what you have to offer.
7. **Collaborate**: Partnering with others in your niche can introduce your content to their followers and vice versa. Collaboration can be a powerful way to grow your audience.
8. **Adapt and Evolve**: Stay open to feedback and trends. As the digital landscape constantly changes, your content and strategy may need adjustments.
In the world of social media, building an audience takes time and effort. By staying committed, offering value through education, and being yourself, you can gradually grow your following and create a thriving community of engaged viewers.
