We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chuck Prescott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chuck below.
Hi Chuck, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
It takes a certain drive that we can all find within ourselves. Bring yourself out side your comfort zone. When you work for yourself doing something you love , you’ll find you put yourself out there a lot more than if you were working for someone else. What you put out to the universe will come to you. You must always surround yourself with people you are going to uplift you in your journey and don’t be afraid of the net sayers.

Chuck, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I became a full time artist a few years back after being laid off from a job of 15yrs. Always and artist, I decided I am going to take the leap of faith and follow my dream full time. I started this series called “Shortcuts” a little more than a year ago and it has suddenly taken off, so much so that I have decided to take the series to Spectrum Art Miami 2023. One of the biggest art shows in the country.
This will help give me information for my art business, it will tell me my demographic for my art, give me an idea on pricing and hopefully to meet many new collectors, and media exposure. The world will get to see the art of C. Prescott

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
After being laid of I packed up my belongings in NYC and moved to S. Florida affording me to do Art full time. Not knowing anyone I put myself out there , way out of my comfort zone and a year and a half later the pandemic hit! Two years with all studio, galleries closed I was like WTF- one of my Shortcuts. The pandemic comes to and end and I lose my partner of 25yrs and my dog of 17yrs. My world was shattered. Needing something new and fresh, colorful and current and with todays culture I came up with Shortcuts. LAMO, lol,ily and turned it into art. The list is endless. I had five shows with this series in the last eight months and that’s when I decided I needed to take it to Art Miami this year.
So that is what I call resilience. Life happens, but you must keep moving and work that into your creativity.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn a customer is always right. They just may not be right for you and your business. I had a collector try to lowball me on a piece to the point it was insulting. I said very calmly I don’t think we can make a deal at that price. I asked if they were willing to make a better offer and they said no. I found the courage to say, sorry we weren’t able to make something work. I was willing to walk away and say no. Long story short they came back with a better offer. Stand with conviction.
