We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chrystopher Hancock a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Chrystopher thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Since I was 16 years old, I have worked sometimes having a full-time job and a part-time job at the same time. No matter what, for 13 years I received a paycheck every week and all I had to do was show up and I knew I would be getting paid.
In 2020 I started my spiritual business by launching my website and later that year I took my business public with social media and marketing platforms. However, I was still working full-time as an Area Sales Manager in retail making good money but was definitely underpaid and in some ways, miserable.
I always knew that I wanted to branch off on my own and start my own business but I did not expect the impulse to strike so quickly so when I left the company I was with for 9 years, needless to say, I was excited but very nervous.
I’ve taken many risks in my life but employment has always been consistent. This was a HUGE risk and I did not have very many clients booking when I left the company but I just knew once my schedule freed up that I would get more business and sure enough I was right. The first week out of the company I had 14 bookings in one week versus the usual 3-6. This proved to me that I was moving in the right direction and the rest is history.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an AstroMedium which is an intuitive channel, medium and psychic astrologer. I have been interested in energy, astrology, spirits and creativity since very young and having been an actor my whole life since a child, I always knew I would do something big.
For many years I denied my gifts and pushed spirituality to the side as if it was my religion that I only practiced sometimes or in private but spirit pushed me and pushed me until I went through a major spiritual awakening and opening several years ago that completely changed my life.
I began having undeniable experiences and validation from others while also attracting mentors and teachers who have helped me sharpen my abilities and learn how to start my own business.
From there I began offering 1:1 psychic sessions of all kinds with clients ranging from astrology to mediumship and now, my work has evolved into offering personal development sessions, ascension & awakening coaching, plant medicine healing experiences, retreats, group ceremonies, healing work and a service called AstroMediumship which encompasses many of the services I offer in one.
My work is focused on assisting people in healing deep trauma, recovering from addiction and abuse, finding their soul family, reconnecting them with their body, heart and nature while activating psychic abilities and holding space for major leveling up to take place.
As much as I love connecting to spirit in sessions and studying astrological data, I am most proud of my work in the healing field as I am a shamanic practitioner and medicine facilitator having done healing work on hundreds of people so far with major results.
For example, one of my clients who has come to several retreats and ceremonies who was taking 11 medications, drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes and cannabis (all daily), has come off of everything except vaping and has been sober and prescription-free for over a year now. She was on these meds for half of her life. THIS is an example of what I’m here to do.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media has not been an easy feat for me and although I’ve garnered thousands of followers across many platforms, I had to work for it. I can say, for much of that time I was unaware of algorithms and timing and was still honing my content creation skills but the most important message I can give to anyone is to be authentic to a fault, your audience loves YOU not just your content. They need to fall in love with YOU! Do not hide behind your content all the time. Social media is not the platform to play it safe and neither is owning your own business. And secondly, be consistent. Following algorithms and trends are important as well but consistency and visibility are the number one means of gaining new followers.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
As a business owner and leader, you must be in tune with your associates’ needs and your staff will feel that. Balance is key because being too hard and demanding can flip most people into survival mode leaving them exhausted and feeling like they’ve failed at something and being too kind and easy going can translate to leisure time.
However, love always wins. If you can delegate with love and passion, your team will feel it and respond accordingly. Rewarding them when they’ve gone above and beyond, always asking what you can do for them and celebrating every win is the way to keep your team close, loyal and productive.
