We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chrystal Saint-Clair a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chrystal, appreciate you joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I’ve been self employed since 2018. I decided to take a risk and work for myself when I saw my network could truly be my net worth. I was already consulting on marketing projects and social media management, so I decided to dive into it fully. So glad I did.
I wish I knew how difficult entrepreneurship really is: our society glamorizes it but it isn’t for the weak. I believe accountability and desire to succeed will drive you to give it your all.

Chrystal, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a content creator, influencer and run a social media marketing company.
As a content creator, I’ve had the pleasure of creating content form some of the most reputable brands in the world from Prada to Dior to Chips Ahoy.
I started my social media marketing company ‘Saint Clair Connections’ in 2018 after friends would refer me to businesses that needed help leveraging social media.
I’m very proud of the work I’ve accomplished, especially the capability to create a brand identity for my clients and create content that generates revenue for their businesses.
I think I’m this day and age where everyone is on their phone, scrolling through social media, the creative industry is at its peak and I love it!

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think the concept of being a creative is often lost in translation. It’s an industry that everyone feels that they have access to because everybody has a phone with a camera. Followers does not equal being an influencer and having professional equipment does not equal being a creative.
Being a creative dives deep into the psychological aspect of marketing an understanding your consumer base and target audience.
There is psychology behind people spending money, people liking a photo, people following a profile.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Networking has truly been the force that keeps my business growing. Being in the right rooms and being bold and optimistic has allowed me to gain new clients or put me on the radar with prospective clients.
