We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chrystal Cuellar. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chrystal below.
Alright, Chrystal thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I am definitely happy being an entrepreneur and business owner! I think having the the thought of getting a “regular job” always crosses our minds as an entrepreneur, because being an entrepreneur is probably the toughest personal development “course” you can take. You are constantly being tested and if you’re like myself, trying to have a kingdom driven business, it requires a certain level of faith, that even when things don’t look the way you want them to, that Gods got you. The last time I had the thought of MAYBE. throwing in the towel was probably through this last year. Going through my own personal struggles had me in a space of asking myself “is this realistic for my life?” It’s easy to get in your own head too, when your decisions make no sense to others. The truth is, the answer was NO, this isn’t realistic, but God didn’t call me to be realistic or to put myself in a box. Or to put Him in a box for that matter.
God called me to be BOLD, FEARLESS and a WARRIOR of Christ. He called me to be faithful and to trust the process. He called me to remember that this journey isn’t only about myself and my success, it’s about helping His children and doing it all for His glory. It’s also about using the gifts he’s given me and to have FUN. Could I get a “regular job,” sure I could, but I wouldn’t be happy or fulfilled if I did. I would feel like I was skipping out on my purpose and the wild, but beautiful rollercoaster ride entrepreneurship and following the Lord brings. I wouldn’t have it any other way. 😊
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
Absolutely!! I’m a Christian Life Coach who coaches women through sobriety, singleness and their faith.
I was led to this through my own journey in finding God and letting go of toxic people and substances that were hindering my own life.
In a nut shell alcohol used to be my best friend until it was my worst enemy. For years I used alcohol to celebrate or drown my sorrows. I thought my habits around alcohol were okay since I wasn’t drinking daily. I was wrong. This cycle went on for years, until God led me to leave the relationship I was in for almost 10 years. This is when I hit my rock bottom. At this point I was already trying to moderate, taking breaks, switching from whiskey to wine etc. but the days sober became less and less and for the first time I felt like I was losing control. I felt like alcohol was taking over my life. I didn’t know how to handle my emotions or life without this person in my life, and especially going through these big life changes.
So at this point, is when I decided to ask for help. I reached out to my pastors, hired a sober coach and Christian counselor , and started my journey to living an alcohol free life. When I started this new lifestyle, it was tough. Leaving a relationship of 10 years and letting go of alcohol was like stripping away my identity I later realized.
While this journey hasn’t been easy, it’s been the best decision I’ve made in my life aside from following Jesus. He has made my mess into a message, ministry and resource for those struggling in this area. I’ve been able to mentor women all across the states who are willing to make the switch to an alcohol free lifestyle and listen to the Holy Spirits leading, not only in this area, but now in helping them navigate their season of singleness.
Being someone who entertained multiple toxic relationships in her past, it truly is my passion to show women that they don’t need to settle for anything less than Gods best. It’s my passion to show women how to truly be of SOBER MIND and not be afraid of stepping into their God given purpose. To do that, it requires leaving what is weighing them down.
I currently help women 1:1 through my 6 month online faith-based mentorship. This is a high touch mentorship designed to give a high level of accountability for women who are wanting to live an alcohol free lifestyle, navigate singleness Gods way and ultimately grow in their faith. I also have a free community – The Sober Alliance Community and host Masterclasses throughout the year.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Yes! Social media is constantly changing and growing, but I would say in this season, my go to has been Tik Tok. I love this platform because it doesn’t require you to filter anything out, and organic reach is great! Unlike Instagram, is more for the eye and made to be aesthetically pleasing. (Nothing against IG, because I have an IG page.) This is just what I prefer currently as main platforms.
However, I will say when I first started out on social media I utilized Facebook mostly, which I still do now for my free community.
If I had to simplify “building an audience” I would say to work on building community, being yourself and sharing what you’re passionate about teaching people. Pick two platforms, and build a simple funnel that way. For example, Tik Tok and then funneling those interested into something like a free community on Facebook or Email list you will be nurturing.
Especially with social media, it can be easy to play the comparison game, or want to “do it all,” but truly you’re the secret weapon. Even if there are thousands of people doing something similar, they are NOT you. Keep it simple!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What’s helped me build my reputation with my clients and market has been, in my opinion, just being human and authentic. I don’t try to play a part. I do my best at focusing on how I can help my clients, and do so in a way where I’m always over delivering and in integrity. Not because I feel I have to, but because it’s my passion to truly help the women I work with. I try to be the person I needed when I was at a similar stage in my life. I think people are tired of the “fake professionalism” and are just craving real connection and help, without the fluff.
