Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chrysalyn Huff. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chrysalyn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear your thoughts about family businesses.
Starting a business with my family was never something I didn’t think about. I love spending time with my kids and other family members so I wanted to build something that we could all do together and have a piece of.
Each of my adult children have had a significant impact on our success. During the build out of our first location my husband Jeff was on the road traveling with a new role at his company. Ryne, our oldest was off for a semester before student teaching. So he worked with me to manage the entire build out. I wouldn’t have made it without him.
Our daughter, Annie is the one who came up with the idea for us to start live sales during the lock down. This was and has been the thing that saved and changed our businesses for the better.
Our son Josh is now our GM. He runs all the day to day operations and manages all our inbound and outbound shipping. This has allowed myself to really work on the backside and deep dive into numbers and decisions that will protect our brand during any unexpected events of the future.
Jeff and I co-own both companies. RE and KC Furnishing Co. I am President over the brands that all fall under the RE umbrella. The brand is our family. We are RE, the word restoration means a lot to us. It’s not just furniture that can be restored or a home. Our lives, businesses and families are restored in different ways every day.
Chrysalyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
RE started as a vintage only brand and over time began to include all types of home goods or handmade items that you may find in your home.
No one home is the same and we want to try and find a way to connect with everyone and the space they live.
We love helping people find Joy in their pieces as well as decorating. These experiences should be exciting and rewarding.
Bringing Joy to your home is very important to us.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We started using Facebook on the first day of our decision to open a business. We would post something everyday. Even if all we got done was hanging light switches.
Every story, bad and good we have told. This for us has built a community that people feel a part of. Our customers, our “squad”. They are the reason we have survived over the years. Bringing friends and family with them. Telling our story, this has all happened because of the way we share our experiences on social media.
Our social media truly has built our business.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During the lockdown when everyone was trying to figure out what to do to survive we started our IGLIVE sales. These sales saved our business and helped many of our vendors pay their monthly bills.
Learning to sell live was not easy. It took months of fine tuning and finding ways to manage the sales as they exploded and grew bigger. We are still modifying and changing these sales for the better. We most recently launches our live selling app that has been so incredible to develop and watch our squad enjoy the experience.
Always ready for what’s next!
